(Small A/N: To the very very first readers of HHBP 2, you guys know how this chapter goes...)
(Another A/N: Forgive me if I was a late with the update... we're a lil busy... but I hope you like the update...)
Maybe fumbling and fiddling with her fingers would distract her from her worries. Yes. It probably would.
Scarlet Carter was in her worst behaviours that moment, where she wouldn't calm down until she saw it was fine herself. Something she's developed a few years after school.
And Severus Snape hasn't woken up from his consciousness for around eight hours now.
"Scarlet," whispered Xander, "you gotta calm down. You need some rest... Besides, you've been out here since the professor was carried to his bed." He hoped she'd turn her face to him, yet she didn't, and watched as she shook her head. "I-I can't... There's something wrong... I've been seeing these-"
"-these things, yeah," Lyanna cut in, "but you can't just believe a 'witch and wizard-like patronus out of nowhere act' and think Snape's dead! He just needs rest since his head hit hard on the tree."
Both of her best friends seemed worried as Scarlet buried her face in her hands. Shifting uncomfortably in the long red bench outside the Hospital Wing, her mind was racing about what happened.
It was the vision... that thing she saw. The witch and wizard. That small Scarlet and Severus... Or was it something else?
If she could recall correctly, the earlier small version of Severus had a burnt spot on his chest.
The same spot he was hit last night.
Argh! This is stupid! What was to do, though? She couldn't just leave him here unconscious! And here they were, Lyanna and Xander, trying to persuade her into getting some shut eye, but have continously failed over and over again.
"He didn't hit his head on a tree, I've told you that several times. Besides, you don't need to fuss about it to me, Lyanna. I'm just... a little lightheaded, that's all." Scarlet told her and yawned shortly. Lyanna and Xander, both at either side of Scarlet, exchanged glances before shrugging at the same time.
"I haven't ate and it's 3 in the morning. You reckon there's some candy in the Hospital Wi-"
"There aren't any candies in the Hospital Wing, Xander. You've been whining the entire time. Have a little sympathy."
"I can't be sorry for that bloke! He's been giving me his attitude for the last two weeks!" he whispered back, ignoring the fact that Scarlet can hear him clearly.
"He's giving you his attitude because you placed a dungbomb in his office!"
"Don't deny it, Lyanna, it was funny."
"Would you sh-"
"Scarlet, dear?" The door in front of the three opened to reveal Madam Pomfrey. They were all silent and waited for more.
"Yes?" Scarlet looked up.
"He's awake."
It was amazing how she didn't sprain an ankle while Scarlet stood up in a blink of an eye from the bench, and ran into the room past Madam Pomfrey. "Slow down! No running!" the Medical Witch scolded but knew it was a useless excuse to shout.
It was still dark outside but the lights inside the Hospital Wing were lit well enough. Severus' bed was at the end of the chilly room, and Scarlet noticed that a bunch of the staff were circling around his bed. There seemed to be whispers going around probably about the Potions Professor lying across the bed, confused.
(She couldn't hear them, but I could. -Author)
"What do we do, Minerva? The poor girl..." asked Pomona Sprout concerningly while she placed her wand back in her robe. "We have to do something. Possibly distract her from the room," Filius Flitwick suggested making Minerva McGonagall roll her eyes.
"I think we shouldn't tell her he's awake. You don't understand, she'll be i-" Madam Pince was cut off by the Headmistress herself. "We are not doing any of those shenanigans. We shall tell her what's happened... slowly." The rest of them there were simply forced to nod in agreement. "Do what you want. I have no part of this."
"Part of what?"
"Bloody Hippergriff, Scarle'!" Hagrid exclaimed in surprise at the sight of her.
The staff turned their heads to her direction and were shocked to find her standing behind them.
"Scarlet!" cried Filius nervously. "Who brought you in?" The witch tilted her head confusingly. "Madam Pomfrey. Who else, Professor? May I see Severus? It's been hours since I was allowed insi-" She was cut off. "Well, yes, about that..." Madam Hooch said awkwardly then looked at Minerva for assistance. "I think we need to discuss something."
"Yes, well, after this please. I heard Severus is awake and," she pushed her way in, "it'll just take a few minutes."
"Scarlet-!" Pomona Sprout tried to grab her arm but she coughed, beckoning to let her go.
"We warned ye..." muttered Hagrid then covered his eyes with his huge hands.
Nobody stopped her as Scarlet scurried near Severus' bed quickly. She sat on the chair, carressing his hand with a finger, and was relieved to see him turn his head towards her then open his eyes.
"You're awake!" she gasped- well, more of breathed, and hugged Severus so tightly as if she were to lose him if she didn't.
Everybody watched while exchanging glances at the interaction before Xander and Lyanna arrived. "We tried everything, Headmistress. She... well, just got here too fast." they both apologized. Minerva waved her hand dismissively. "I can see that now."
Severus, bewildered, tapped Scarlet's shoulder. He glanced at the Headmistress' and she smiled apologetically.
"Um, miss," he tapped her shoulder gently that made her back away from her warm tight grasp of him. Her eyes met his, oh, those familiar dark eyes, and she instantly knew something was wrong.
"Yes?" she asked, her lip quivering as she spoke.
"May I ask who you are?"
