If someone wants to dig the knife in where they think it'll hurt the most, they just use my name. Roger Van Bell is stereotypical enough to be used as ammunition. Being the new kid in city as a sophomore doesn't make it any easier. Bleak Hollows High has a funny ring to it, but at least it has something to it. I'm seventeen, and today marks 246th day since I moved to this city, and it is that time of year, Halloween. Today isn't any different from any other day. Once again, I'm just wasting away, endlessly staring out into the clouds as a loud lecture goes on. I vainly cling to the hope that there's more to life than this, but motivation is hard to come by nowadays. "This town shouldn't even exist," I mumble under my breath. The world war is the only reason this forsaken city is here. All to mine up some of the rarest and most sacred gem. It's stupid, it's illegal to even be caught with one. Gangs run this city for the most part, since no one seems to care about anything accept that mining facility. I feel like I lose part of myself every waking moment in this little city. Because of this "depressive state" as my therapist put it, my desk is in the back of the classroom. Thankfully I can daydream without getting called out as much for it. Back there, no one normally bothers me except for this one guy, Philip Simons.
He's as arrogant as he is idiotic. Well, I'm making him sound worse than he is. I guess he's reliable and decent enough that I'd call him a friend if questioned about him. We met the second day of school, after he was assigned to the desk next to me. He didn't make it to class the entire first day because he didn't want to ask anyone for help. Even after a teacher attempted to direct him to the right classroom, he brushed them off and ended up in a psychology class. I've never met a more stubborn guy in my life. He's definitely not as sociable as Flay though, who I would consider my best friend.
Flay Venom is a troublemaker. All he does is play around and get into situations nobody should get into. The crazy shenanigans that he's willing to be involved in, from snakes in a teacher's desk, to burning paper airplanes, to raw gossip, this kid is always looking for the next "fun" thing to do. We met when I first moved into this town after my mother's incident, where we became neighbors. Calling us inseparable wouldn't be much of a stretch. That being said we couldn't be more different, case in point, his impromptu idea to throw this grand Halloween party at his house tomorrow that he started planning yesterday. He invited the entire class to go, even though there's only a few folks that we'll enjoy seeing there. Whereas I would've only invited me, myself, and I, then told two of them the party was canceled last minute. Well, there may be someone else I'd invite, Valentina. Or our friend Alicia Caron, some of the only other highlights in this class besides Flay.
Alicia is the Girls' Volleyball Champion, who also happens to be a freshman made her fame here at BHH. She singlehandedly led the school to a total victory, crushing nearly every team she played against. Since then, she has caught the eyes of many guys including Flay. It's not hard to see why, she's athletic, practically famous, and her green eyes have a hypnotic aspect that is hard to ignore. Her straight, brown hair flows down to the middle of her back, though she'll often put up into a ponytail. A slim waist and curvy features cause most of the guys in this class to drool and stare as if they're a pack of starving hyenas. Even though she gives them the cold shoulder so many guys attempt to get with her I honestly don't think Flay stands a chance. I'm just glad he doesn't like Valentina Basson.
The girl of my dreams slapped into my reality, well at least that's how I would describe her. From the moment I met her, when I was introduced to the class, something in my chest began to hurt. I've never felt that feeling before but I've also never met a girl as beautiful as her. I could day dream about taking her out and us being together for hours. Raven locks fall to her waist line, while her dark blue eyes captivate my heart every time that I see her...
