I wake up to the sound of the sprinklers going off. I sit up in my bed and rub the crud out of my eyes. My dog Luna is sitting at the edge of my bed waiting patiently for me to let her out. "Give me a second, Luna." She turns her head and lays back down.
I throw the covers off and leave my bed. I open the door to let Luna out. She looks at me and waits for my approval. I point out the door and she jumps off the bed and trots to the back door. I walk down the steps and open the back door so Luna can go outside. I left the door slightly cracked so she can open it when she wants to come back inside.
Luna is an Alaskan Malamute. I got her when I was 16. So it's been 2 years. I still consider her a puppy. She acts like one. I usually take her to the barn with me. I convinced my mom that I should get a dog so I could concentrate on the dog and not things such as boys, drugs, and alcohol. She was my friends dog's puppy. My friend decided to give the puppies away. Luna was one of those puppies. My mom didn't know how to react when she realized I brought a dog home. She didn't know that the dog would be 6 feet tall when it stood on its hind legs. My mom was a little surprised at how large Luna got to be.
I put Luna's food in her bowl and heard her try to open the door. I heard her claws hit the wood floor as she ran into the kitchen where her food was. I have to feed Luna 3 cups of food a day. She also needs regular exercise, that's another reason I always bring her to the barn with me.
I go to grab my coffee mug when I realized that it was gone. I tried to remember when I had it last. I specifically remember putting it in the dishwasher. I look on the counter next to the stove and I see it. Mom already made some Coffee for me. I put the lid on it and see that she left a note.
"Good morning sweetie! Went to a meeting be back in four hours. Dad said you can use his car. Please take Luna with you. - Mom"
I always hated how my mom forced me to call Carl, my step-father, Dad. You always felt that she was forcing me to accept him. We have had our drama in the past before. She had a habit of trying to force me to see things her way.
I walk back up to my room with my coffee and Luna following close behind. I open my dresser and pull out an aqua tank top, jeans, and knee high socks. I open my closet and pull out my boots. I haven't polished my cowboy boots in over 2 months. I have a gymkhana next weekend. So why would I clean them now if they're just going to get dusty again?
I put on my clothes and boots. I grab Luna's blue leather collar. "Luna, come here baby." She looks at me and thinks we are going for a walk. "Want to go to the barn?" She understands what I say and gets exited. She jumps into my lap and lets me out on her collar. I stand up and walk down the stairs. Luna circles me and tries to trip me. I open the garage door and unlock Carl's car.
Carl has a Nissan pick up truck. Nothing wrong with it. I just hate it with a burning passion. It can't do anything except haul 5 people around. I open the driver side door and Luna jumps in and sits in the passenger seat. I get it and start the truck up. I instantly turn on the seat heater. I reach over and put the passenger seat heater on the lowest setting for Luna.
I back out of the garage making sure not to hit anything on my way out. Luna whimpers. I looked at her to see what her problem was. She was pawing at the door. I realized she wanted her window rolled down. "Luna, do it yourself." Luna finally hits the button to roll down the window. I open the center console and pull out my Green Day CD. I put in the American Idiot album and stuck it on shuffle. The first song that turned on was Jesus of Suburbia.
I decide to call Dax and let him know that I am on my way to the barn. I turn on the voice command button on the steering wheel. I hear the car beep to let me know that it's listening. "Call Dax."
