In Their Eyes

*Somewhere Unknown*

The screaming of a female sounded loud enough to drown my ears of any outside sounds. There was no source of where the screaming was coming from since everything was pitch black, then a bright light flickered on far off in the distance showing the outline of a female. She just stood there, facing me. It was too dark to see any details but her figure looked familiar.

"Take care of them for me.." Her voice echoed, familiar.... Mani.

"Mimi!" I screamed. Finally! We're reunited once again!

Her arms slowly extended forward and her shadow crouched down to my height, she sat there waiting for me.
My heart jumped from joy at the sight of her waiting there for me. How did we manage to escape? Where's Kai? At the moment I pushed those thoughts aside and ran to Mani.

"Mimi! We missed you so much! I-"

The loud sound of a BANG  rung my ears, leaving them hurting with an echoing of the gunshot. I stopped in my tracks. The screaming came again.

I covered my ears to dial down the loudness that the screaming gave. Who is screaming? Then it clicked.

Mani's body began to lean forward and her body began to fall.

I tried calling out to her and ran as fast as I could to reach her in time but my movement was eternally slow and the distance between us was still too great. It felt like forever as I was forced to watch her body fall.

Just before I was able to get close enough a second figure jumped over Mani. It looked as it were a male figure but one thing that stood out were... wings?

"Mimi!" I screamed aloud.

Her body lied limp on the floor. But the man's head looked up at me. Shortly after, five more tall figures stood above the two, looking down at Mani. No, they can't hurt her!

Alieah scared herself awake.

The room was dark but an occasional white light would flash for a split second, revealing the surroundings the two young ones were in. It was an empty cement room that stunk of chemicals.

The light that flashed shown that there were two metal-framed beds with worn mattresses that were cheap and nearly torn. A sink and toilet were isolated at the opposite end of the beds, sitting against the wall with an eerie echo of the drip-drop sound of water falling from the faucet. The room was empty, but it still felt so full.

"Kai?" Alieah whimpered.

"Yeah?" He responded.

"Where are you?"

"I'm right here."

A dark shadow sat up from the bed on the left side of the room, it was Kai. His small frame stood at the edge of the bed with arms extended forward.

Alieah stood from her bed and sat alongside Kai. Both cuddled at the corner of the bed seeking one another for comfort and warmth. Tears began to trickle down Alieah's cheeks.

"Kai, the dream!" She sobbed.

"I know, I saw it too." His voice shook before it finally cracked.

Both held each other, silently crying at the horrible vision they saw. Although they hadn't seen everything clearly, the idea of Mani dying had shook them to their core. It was unclear of who had shot her but the mystery itself gave for a greater wave of tears.

The scene replayed in their heads, further causing the two to shake. They  knew it was a dream but the possibility had brought both of them in a paranoia. It wasn't clear of who did it but the idea of Mani being killed by any of the figures had left an imprint of distrust in Kai more than Alieah.

There was no way of communicating with Mani for both hadn't reached puberty yet. Nearly four more years were left before Alieah would at least hit the age of twelve, leaving them with no hope of finding a way of escape.

The room bounced off the sounds of the sniffling children. The complete darkness of the enclosed room left them with no clue of the time of day it had been. It was empty, until the sound of a CLICK  rang across the room followed by a door opening, spilling in a harsh white light. A tall, slightly muscular figure walked in with poise. His face was still hidden.

" I hope you two aren't hurt." His deep voice cooed.

Kai and Alieah scurried over to the furthest corner from the door and the man in fear.

"Don't be scared!" He said, "If you do what I need you to do, then I'll take good care of you."

His voice gave off a demeaning tone that left a threat aimed at the the two kids. Despite the shadow that hid the strange man's face, a wicked smile could still be seen...
