This is so not happening, I thought lifting my head from the table. Everyone seemed to be staring at me. Great, I thought sarcastically to myself. I’d dozed off again, I always did in French, it just didn’t interest me as much as I thought it would when I chose to take it. Madame Bourdon was staring at me herself, her eyes were stern and I could tell she didn’t like me. How could she not though? I’d only met her today, true I wasn’t very good and yes I did fall asleep in her class but still.

“Lucy, comment pouvons-nous dire ‘Je vais a la gare pour recontrer mon ami Nicole’ en anglais?” she asked me. Oh great, this was just what I needed.

“Err… ons dit…” I was really stuck here. Madame Bourdon crossed her arms and dipped her hip, I clearly wasn’t going to be getting any help from her.

“I am going to the…” what did ‘gare’ mean? I thought, flicking through my pocket dictionary. I could feel everyone’s eyes on me, this is so uncomfortable, I thought. Finally I found the word I was looking for.

“I am going to the train station to… uhh… meet my friend Nicole” I said just about loud enough for the dragon to hear.

“Stay awake Lucy” my French teacher said standing up straight and walking over to the board where she wrote my name on as a warning. I rolled my eyes discreetly and muttered under my breath. She had it out for me.

I looked over to the left of the class, I hated sitting at the back of a class. It was weird, I always ended up in trouble for talking or falling asleep. Lessons just seemed inhumanly boring when I was at the back. Plus it didn’t help that I didn’t like the class. The walls were a pale green, they literally reminded me of sick. They looked awful, and it didn’t help when the blinds were an equally ugly grey. I turned my head to the right and looked out the window, the sky seemed gloomier than yesterday. The grass was getting cut in the field and the grass cutter was getting closer and louder giving me a headache.

I rolled my eyes and flicked the lid off my pen to start writing my coursework answers. It was only the second day of school and we were already starting our coursework practise. I still had twenty minutes of this lesson to endure but then again after this period I’d be going shopping with the queen bee and her minions. Suddenly I wasn’t so sure I wanted to get out of this hell hole. I let out a long sigh and shook my head gently to try clear my head. Back to work, I thought.

                                                     *********************************************

“Hey, Luce, over here!” I heard someone cry from somewhere. I turned around to see Natasha, a petite red head and a friend of Byronnies’, waving madly in my direction. I waved back and smiled uneasily, I had a feeling today would be getting a bit awkward. I pulled my shoulder strap closer to me to stop my bag sliding off my and walked over to where the girls was standing. Byronnie wasn’t there yet, come to think of it, quite a few of them were missing.

Natasha smiled at me welcomingly, maybe a bit too welcomingly, which made me feel all the more out of place and worried. The girl who stood beside her however didn’t budge, neither did her facial expression change. Her hair was a light strawberry blonde and it floated just below her shoulders in big soft curls. I couldn’t see her face because she had her back turned to me. I was starting to wonder whether she was going to be the Dylan of the group, there always had to be one hater in every group didn’t there, I thought disregarding her existence momentarily.
