"Move!" a guy shouted as he shoved past me aggressively. I was fighting my way through the now very crowded canteen to find an empty table but they all seemed to have been taken already. People stared at me momentarily from every direction I looked. I felt like shouting, yes I'm the new girl get over it! but I didn't. I walked to the back of the canteen where the only table left was the one closest to the door and by the jocks table. This should be fun, I thought sarcastically to myself slumping down onto a cold, hard chair alone.
I let out a sigh and put my head in my hand watching everyone walk past. Some people were getting on my nerves giving me sympathetic looks like I was some sort of loner. I rolled my eyes at them and pulled my bag up from underneath the table. I opened the zip and shuffled for my pocket mirror to check my makeup and hair. It seemed to be stuck to something. I put my other hand in, I knew I looked like a complete idiot doing that, and tried to get the mirror out. Great, I thought as I realized it was stuck to my favourite grey scarf. I tried to get it out, suddenly my bag fell off my lap and everything in it just hurled all over the canteen floor.
“Crap,” I muttered under my breath. This is so embarrassing, I thought. I bent down to gather my things and no one bothered trying to help me. “Yeah, really helpful guys thanks” I called out sarcastically to a group of girls who’d walked around me throwing my arms up in the air.
“Nice ass babes” I heard, who I thought was the team captain, say from the jocks table behind me. I turned around and stared at him. I had to admit, he was pretty hot.
“Well thanks, care to give me a hand?” I asked expecting some smug reply. It was worth the risk but to my surprise he got up off his seat.
“Name’s Nick, who’re you?” he said looking at me and ignoring his friends who were laughing behind him at their table. He just crouched there not really helping me but I guess the fact I wasn’t on the floor alone was a bonus.
“Lucy” I said feeling myself go red. Why am I blushing? I never blush.
“So what year you in… Lucy?” he asked, trying to sound sexy but failing terribly.
“Ten” I said sitting up annoyed at myself for blushing.
“Laters” he said getting up and going off to join his mates who were roaring with laughter now, throwing him playful punches. They all looked back at me, God I felt humiliated.
“Arse” I muttered under my breath angrily going back to collecting my things. I piled my books and placed them on the table ready to be put back in my bag. I stretched my hand across to reach my pencil case, suddenly someone’s trainer stepped right on it. I heard something inside it crack. I was getting more annoyed now but the black trainer with the purple tongue didn’t move. I looked up and saw a girl I hadn’t seen before look down at me. I waited for her to move but she clearly had other ideas.
“Excuse me” I said indicating her foot was in way. She didn’t move. What was this girls’ problem? I mean seriously. I pulled myself up and looked her in the eyes, she was about the same height as me.
“I said… excuse me” I repeated, trying not to get rude. This girl was clearly on a higher rank than the queen bees in my class and people knew not to mess with her. Her expression didn’t change. She simply kicked my pencil case behind her and strode over to where I was sitting. With one sweep she pushed my books back on the floor and was joined by her mates.
I stared at her in disbelief. Un-bel-ievable. Who did this girl think she was? I didn’t want to get in a fight with anyone on my first day, let alone the girl who seemed to rule the school. I didn’t even know her name but she had just crossed the line. I walked up to her from behind and tapped her shoulder sure she was going to snap at me. Instead she got up and turned to face me.
“What do you want?” she said rolling her eyes at me. Her voice was actually kind of sweet and slightly high-pitched which I didn’t expect but it was full of authority and she wasn’t kidding around.
“I was sitting there”
“And…?” her friends had now gotten up behind her and there was a crowd forming around us eager to see what was going on.
“And you can’t just come in and push my things off the table like you own it” I said, my blood starting to boil.
“Well what you gonna do about it?”
I looked her down. She was wearing black skinny jeans, a purple tank top and a shiny black down jacket. Her hair was straightened and left out and she had a purple baseball cap on her head. She folded her arms waiting for a reply. I didn’t want to get on this girls bad side but I definitely didn’t want her to think I couldn’t handle myself. I raised my eyebrows at her and was about to say something but I was interrupted.
“Hey Luce, we’re over here” Rachelle called me from behind. I spun round and there was Rachelle, standing by a table I had walked straight past, putting a tray down.
“What’s the problem?” she said walking over, she took a look at the floor with my things on it and between the girl and me. She looked up at the ceiling and back down at me. I was more confused than ever but the girl who’d just pushed my things off the table just dipped her hip and watched Rachelle as if she was waiting for something, arms still folded.
“Right, umm… Lucy our table is over there” she said indicating the table she was just standing at. I looked at the people sitting at it, two guys and two girls, two of them looked like a couple and the other two were bickering about something which I couldn’t make out. None of them were taking any notice of what was going on.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” I moaned facing her now. The girl walked back to her table and bit into an apple her friend handed to her. I bent down and got all my things with Rachelles’s’ help.
“I’m sorry, I just forgot, I’m used to just going there, it slipped my mind” she said picking up some papers that had flown out of my folder. I smiled at her to let her know it was okay and followed her to her groups table. She sat down and pointed to the empty seat opposite her for me to sit down.
“Urgh Rach, we told you not to bring her” said the guy at the far corner by the wall as if I wasn’t there.
“No Dylan, you said not to, the others were completely fine with it. Guys this is Lucy Brooks” she said grinning and pointing at me.
“Hey I’m Zara, Zara Arshad” said the girl next to me grinning and shaking my hand to prove she was fine with me being with them.
“Melanie Sinch” said the red headed girl opposite her smiling.
“Troy McAllen” the boy opposite Dylan said giving me a salute. I laughed and did one back. He grinned showing his pearly whites. Everyone turned to see what Dylan would do.
“Dylan” he said nodding in my direction.
“Hey” I said deciding to play it cool and not let him get to me.
I looked back at the girl that took the table I was at. She was there laughing with her friends like nothing had happened. I watched her hand the remains of her apple to one of the girls and they just went and put it in the bin for her. They treated her like royalty.
“Don’t take any notice, that’s Danielle, just try and avoid her yeah?” Zara said without looking at me.
“Why, who is she?” I asked turning to face her.
“Biggest bitch in the school, she’s the year above” Troy answered in a matter-of-fact way.
“Great” I said sarcastically, raising my right eyebrow. Options were racing through my mind but I knew what I had to do to get to the top. Get in with the Queen Bees, I'd have to start somewhere then eventually join Danielle. Then maybe... just maybe... take her down. If this school needed a ruler, then I'd take the role gladly. I was liking this new plan, all I had to do was figure out how the hell I was going to do it.

A/N: I know the plots moving kinda slow at the moment. Don't worry it's going to speed up in a chapter or two.
