Revenge

We all know that somebody might want to take our stuff, so we set up watch. Rylan, Sienna and I are sitting around in our camp and Cypress is out on the tree next to the rock wall, watching. Rylan and I are sorting food and Sienna is making sure all the traps are working. There aren't much trees behind the rock wall, but there are some. There's a dead one on the ground with most of it's branches broken off, so I walk over and pick some up for firewood.

When I'm walking back, I hear some voices and a small little scream. I freeze. Sienna gives me a look that says, Cypress.  I listen to the voices.

"What should we do with this one, North?" a guy's voice speaks.

"I don't know. Might have allies. We could keep it hostage." North says. "Celeste?"

"I say we kill it."

I nearly gasp. I recognize this voice. It was the voice of the girl at the interviews. The girl from District 1. Which could only mean one thing. Careers, I mouth urgently at Rylan and Sienna. Rylan's eyes widen in fear. So do Sienna's. We are all thinking the same thing. They came back for us.

The Careers keep talking. "You know, Orion, that this one could be the one who stole our things," North says. Very close, my friend. Very close.

"Good point," Orion, I think, says.

"Let's ask her," Celeste suggests. Looks like somebody didn't get any smarter. "Hey, did you take our things?" There's some movement, then Cypress yells, "Ow!"

We are all on our feet at the same time. I reach for my knife, Sienna snatches her spear, and Rylan pulls out his sword.

"What was that?" I hear Celeste's voice.

We scramble over the rock wall (not so great idea) and find that we are surrounded by the same girl from District 1, a boy, and another boy. Cypress is up in the tree and jumps down. I reach in to my fanny pack and pull out another knife and grip it tightly.

"Now what should we do, North?" Celeste breaks the silence.

But North isn't listening. He's staring at my knife. "I know that knife."  I glance at my knife. Shoot. I'm holding the knife we took from the Careers. "You and your little friends took our stuff!" North yells.

And just like that, all three of them start grabbing their weapons and attacking. Celeste has a bow and arrow, though I believe she won't ever be as good as Katniss Everdeen, and shoots at Cypress. Cypress sees it coming and leaps to the side in time. Rylan isn't so lucky. North swings his mace and it ends up grazing the side of Rylan's cheek. It leaves a deep gash that starts gushing out blood. Sienna is running into near death situations, so I creep up just in time to see Sienna hitting the rocks, hard.

Orion swings his axe at me and I am so taken by suprise that I take some quick steps backward. He misses.

I turn around, and I'm facing Celeste. She leans in and snarls, "I know you. You're that girl, whose little brat sister died before. Well, guess what, you're going to die now."  She slams me in to a tree, and a burning pain shoots up my left arm. I'm really mad at her for saying that, so, with all strength I have left, I take a huge swipe at her with my knife. She screams, and the last thing I see before I get knocked out is North and Orion leaving and dragging/carrying her with them.

I dream that I'm in one of the orchards we have in District 11, with Rue. She's running, and I run after her. I run and run, but I can never seem to catch up with her.

"Sage. Sage, can you hear me? Sage..." I open my eyes. Everything's so bright and fuzzy. My eyes adjust, and I see Cypress holding a spoon and a can. "Where did you get that?" I say.

"Sponsors."

"Really?" I try to sit up, but my head starts to get dizzy. "How are Sienna and Rylan doing?"

"Sienna's fine and so is Rylan, except for his huge cut. It might get infected. You're fine too, but your sprained your wrist really bad."

"I did what?" I bring my left arm up so I can see it, but it starts to hurt a lot.

"It's swollen a bit," Cypress informs me. "Now eat something."

After I get some more strength back, I haul myself up and prop myself against a tree. It's getting dark, and the national anthem starts to play. The dead tributes light up in the sky. The boy from District 1, and the girls from 2 and 3. Those were the Careers we killed. I can't help but feel sorry for the people who we technically killed. I hold my wrist in my right arm, and think. I miss my family back home. One by one, tears start to roll down my cheeks. And I don't know why.
