Authors note: I'm really sorry I haven't posted an a really really long time. I started this cover making thing with a friend, I have to take care of that (if you need a banner, cover, or ad visit us!). Yeah, I know. Excuses... Anyways, I'm really sorry I haven't updated in a while, and I hope you'll forgive me.
I don't trust Javier. That's one thing I know. He seemed fishy when we met him. And he still does. I'm thinking this over as we start looking for food to eat. He walks completely ahead of us, like he is sure where we are all going. I glance at Cypress. She narrows her eyes at Javier. Asher and I share a look and he draws a finger across his throat, meaning no. I notice that Asher seems paler than usual. Hmph. Only Sienna seems fine with Javier. Sienna is always friendly and kind, sometimes she is a little too friendly and kind.
We walk until we come to the place where Cypress found the hemlock. Javier stops suddenly. He leans right next to the plant. "Here's some wild carrot," he says, with a weird look in his eye.
"Um, no. That's actually hemlock." Cypress steps forward.
Javier narrows his eyes slightly. "Are you sure? Because I am positive that this is wild carrot."
I stare at him closely. "Cypress is right. It's hemlock. Look at it's leaves. They aren't hairy, are they? Wild carrot has hairy leaves."
"I also think that the leaves are hairy." Javier speaks smoothly, but for some reason he has this look in his eye that says that he is annoyed.
"It's hemlock, because we gave it to the Careers and they died right after," Rylan replies.
"They might have eaten something else."
"Listen. It's hemlock, okay? If you think it's carrot or something, eat it yourself. We'll see what happens." Asher snaps, annoyed and angry.
"Fine. Be that way." Javier sneers and walks past us.
"Guys, give him a break. He's only trying to help." says Sienna softly.
"Right," Asher replies.
We start to walk back towards our camp, with Javier in tow. As we walk, two tributes suddenly jump out of trees in front of us. I give a little scream. They seemed to have fallen out of the sky.
Javier narrows his eyes and says to no one in particular, "I can handle this." He does this really weird ninja type thing which make me wonder if he took training in 7.
He slits one of the tributes throat, and moves on to stab the second. I shudder. Goosebumps rise on my arms. That was disgusting. And unnatural. Cypress is in shock. Sienna peeks through her hands that are over her eyes and quickly covers them up again. "You are very welcome." Javier says, and stalks toward camp.
I walk slowly as I think this through. If he could do that to other tributes, he could do that to us. But he's your ally, A little voice says in my head. But sometimes allies turn on each other, another voice says. I shiver and push the idea out of my head.
It turns out the males from 4 and 6 were killed. I climb up a neighboring tree next to camp and settle down there. I fall in to a light sleep until I wake from a soft noise. I look down and see Cypress holding something. I look closer and see that it's the flare gun, that we received from a sponsor. She looks around and seems to not have noticed me. She does something with the gun and fires it into the air. A streak of green light flies high in to the "sky" of the arena. I turn around and close my eyes, not fully comprehending what happened.
Author's other note: KillerKIttyKat13 made me my first tralier, and I posted on the side. :)
