My mother passed away two nights ago from her cancer, stage 4 cancer. She has decided to be cremated, and Garland respected her decision after her cremation, I am moving home to Washington.
My little sister, Isabella Marie Swan, is turning 18 tomorrow. I guess her boyfriend's sister is throwing her a birthday party, and has insisted Bella on bringing me.
I stand beside Garland at the funeral home and we watch the undertaker out my mom's adds in a floral urn. A tear escapes my eye before I walk out of the funeral home. I sit on a chair. I have to wait for Garland, because he is my ride to the airport.
"Are you ready?" Garland asks, with the urn tucked under his arm.
"I have to be." I say softly. "Let's go, G."
I get in the car, and I hold mom's urn on my lap. There is a river behind mom and Garland's house, that is where her ashes are going to be spread.
----
I get off the plane in Port Angeles, and I carry my luggage outside. I see the busy streets, and it takes forever for me to arch a taxi. I have a Hungarian driver, and I tell him my dad's address.
I tip the driver and I carry my bags inside. Dad jumps nearly out of his skin and he turns to see me.
"Vanessa!" Dad hugs me.
I see a man with long black hair and in a wheelchair over dad's shoulder. "Dad, whose the man behind you?"
"Oh, in sorry, this is Billy." Dad chuckles. "He's a good friend of me. Billy, this is my daughter, Vanessa. Her mother was cremated today. Claire had cancer."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, Vanessa." Billy says.
"You can call me Nessa, Van, or Vani; everyone else does." I say. "No need to apologize. She had cancer for a year."
Billy smiles. "Would you mind running me home?"
"Use my truck." Bella says from the bottom step. "I've missed you, Vani."
"Thanks, Bells." I say, grabbing the key from her. "I have missed you too, little sister."
I help Billy into the truck, and I put his wheelchair on the back. He says it being wet won't hurt him one bit, whereas it is drizzling rain.
"How long have you known my father?" I ask Billy.
"Since Bella was a baby." Billy replies. "I was first person he meet when he and Renee moved in, Bella was barely a year old."
"Well, it is an honor finally meeting you, mister Billy." I say.
A boy runs out and gets Billy out and in the wheelchair. "I'm Jacob, Billy's son."
"I'm Vanessa, Charlie's eldest daughter." I say.
"That we had no idea about until he found out your mother died a couple days ago." Billy says.
Jacob smiles. "Nice meeting you, Nessa. I need to get the ole' man inside."
I wave before I pull away from their house. I stop by the La Push local diner, feeling a tad bit hungry. I sit in a booth alone. A man is sitting at a table with one chair, an elder man. I like these men, that have Native American trains. Long hair, tan skin. The elder ones have white or gray hair, the adults have black hair with a little white, and the teens and younger have black hair. Every one in this small town is tanned and dark eyes.
"I haven't seen you around here before." A lady says, in an apron. "I'm Susie, and I'll be your waitress. What can I get you to drink?"
"I am new, moved to Forks today." I reply gently. "I want a Cole. Can I have a BLT sandwich and some fries?"
Susie writes my order down and she walks away. She gives me my drink and she goes to wait for my food to finish cooking for me.
"Thank you, Susie." I say as she lays my food in front of me.
"Enjoy, and come back soon." She smiles. "Welcome to Washington, sweetie."
I take a bite of the sandwich first thing, and I sip on my Sprite. My cellphone rings, and I see it is Bella.
"Hey, little sister." I say. "So sorry I am running late; I stoped by a diner in La Push, decided to eat dinner here."
"It's okay, Vani." Bella says. "Dad and I drive to Forks diner. It is a usual Saturday routine."
I chuckle as I munch in a fry. "I'm glad to be home, Bella. I really am."
"I'm glad you're back too, Vanessa." Bella says. "I better go, we are headed home.
I take my final bite. "As am I, little sister."
I hang up the phone, and I pat my food bill. I get into Bella's truck, and I drive back to Forks, back home. I beat those two home, and they were closer. Dad must have either stopped by the store or the station.
Bella's 18th birthday is tomorrow. My sister is growing way too fast. I am looking forward to meeting her boyfriend and his family tomorrow. It should be great, and sweet.
Bella walks in and I toss her the truck keys. I carry my bags up and To my room. I finally need to unpack. I put my clothes and shoes away before I change into some black pajamas.
I collapse into my bed, and I stare at my ceiling. I yawn real big before drifting off to sleep.
