Chapter 7

After briefing Zekie on what I planned to do tonight he agreed to support me but he also asked if Sam and Evan could come over and be told at the same time. I had grown quite close to them recently so if Zekie trusts them I trust them.

Obviously I didn't tell Zekie the reason for my sudden change of heart. If he ever found out what happened today he would go bat shit crazy. He is the calm one out of the two of us but when that boys temper goes, it goes. Think atomic bomb. The last time it happen was the legendary broken jaw of 08. Something none of us will forget quickly. I still find it funny. Dick deserved it. That's not a popular opinion though but... fuck it.

I send a quick text of to April just like Zekie did to Sam and Evan.

Me: hey can you come round to mine. I have something important to tell you

April: sure thing! I have some news for you as well :)

With that all sorted I make my way upstairs to get into something more comfortable. I usually only wear shorts at home when there is no one else around as I don't like people seeing my leg but as we're telling them all about it they might as well see my leg. The prosthetic that is. 

I put on some three quarter length shorts as I'm not quite ready for people to know about my other scars; and my papa roach t-shirt. As today is a special occasion I decide to wear my special leg. It's the leg my family got for me. It's a normal prosthetic but instead of looking realistic it is a white leg covered with black swirl patterns. I love it I'm just never confident enough to wear it.

As I finished getting changed I hear that everyone is already downstairs. The plan is that Zekie will prepare people and then I will walk in so people can figure things out for themselves.

I make my way downstairs waiting outside the living room door for my que.

"So now you know about the incident you know how I got this scar on my face and how I lost my eye but Tavi wasn't quite as lucky as I was" he says making his face fall. This has always been a sensitive topic for Zekie. He blames himself. "Although she can hide her a bit more easily it effects her a bit more than mine does"

That's the que. At this I walk into the room facing all of our friends. They all smile when they see me but as they look down my body there faces change to a weird mix of shock and horror.

"Holy shit Tavi! How the hell did you hide that!" Evan screeches causing a glare from Zekie and a punch from Sam.

"Dude!" Sam shouts. "Cool leg by the way Tavi"

I look over to April to see her face is still showing shock. I hope she doesn't hate me. Just as I bring my hands up to sign to her she jumps up and pulls me towards her in a bear hug.

"I'm sorry for everything you've been through" she whispers in my ear.

"Damn girl I didn't know you could look that sexy with one leg. The leg is awesome by the way" April practically shouts so that everyone can hear.

They are all smiling at me like idiots now. I feel a pressure lift if my chest. They have all accepted it without any comments or prods. It feels weird to have proper friends.

"That reminds me I have some news for you guys as well"

We all turn to look at April who has a look of excitement on her face.

"Well as you know I had that appointment today. I'm just letting you guys know that I have been passed for cochlea surgery. My family finally saved up enough to be able to afford it"

I'm shocked. April has a massive smile on her face. I know that she has wanted this surgery for ages. I'm so happy that she is finally getting this. She deserves it.

"That's amazing April"

"Yeah the only problem is I won't be in school for a couple of weeks while I have the surgery and I'm recovering"

"In that case" Zekie says standing up.

He walks over to April, grabs her face AND KISSES HER!

When he pulls away April has gone a bright crimson colour and she's giggling like an idiot. 

"And Tavi" Evan says standing up.

"Boy unless you are telling me you won the lottery you need to sit your arse down. Are we clear?"

"Yes Mam" Even says looking down sheepishly.

Everybody starts laughing but I notice Zekie and April are still staring at each other. Part of me want to be sick but a tiny part of me thinks it's quite cute.

"April can I borrow you a second" I sign before dragging her off up the stairs.

When we get to my bedroom I throw her in the room and close the door in excitement.

"You, my brother, how long?" I sign

"Well I didn't really know he liked me. I liked him a lot and I kind of told him on Friday as I new I wouldn't see him for ages"

"I bet your glad you saw him tonight then"

"Definitely" she looks at me bright eyed.

I can't help but laugh. I'm so happy that they are both happy.

"But you have gossip for me I know you do" she looks at me accusingly.

"What do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb. What's going on between you and Eric. I've seen the way he looks at you"

What? Either everyone is insane or I am the most unobservant person ever. What the hell does she mean?

"Nothing's happening he's a dick but..."

"But?" She looks at me expectantly.

"Well today he helped me with some creep and then ended up seeing my leg so I ran away and then he followed me and I ended up becoming his tutor in order to avoid gym class" I say in one breathe.

I look up and see April standing there with her mouth open.

"Holy shit Tavi"

Great if the always calm April is shocked then I definitely have a problem.
