After many complaints and meaningless arguments, the Winchester siblings were finally asleep. Dean was the first to fall asleep whether he was willing to admit it or not. He slept like a rock in the quiet motel room.
A few hours later, Sam was awoken by the sounds of whimpering. At first he dismissed the sound as an animal outside, but the whimpering grew louder. It was human, Sam pryed his heavy eyelids open to the sight of darkness. As his eyes adjusted to the room, he could make out Dean on the other bed.
He sat up on the mattress and saw Kate tossing and turning on the fold out couch. She whimpered and moaned, rolling over from her right to her left side. Her whimpers grew louder and she started muttering words. Sam could make out words like no and stop. He also heard Kate muttered a name, Rachel.
Sam quickly threw off the covers and silently made his way to Kate's side. Her breathing was shallow and fast, her face was contorted in a look of fear.
Sam carefully reached out his hand, resting it on Kate's shoulder. He shook it lightly in an attempt to wake her up. Kate sat straight up in bed, gasping for air. Her eyes frantically searched the room until they landed on Sam. Her breathing was still fast and shallow.
"Hey! It's okay! It's okay." Sam said quietly. Trying to calm her down. "Take a deep breath." Kate did as she was told. Sam talked her through the breathing process until it returned to normal.
Kate choked as a sob tore through her chest. Tears ran down her face as Sam pulled her into a warm embrace. Kate gripped his shirt tightly as she cried into his chest. Sam rested his chin on her head and played with her dirty blonde hair. It was his turn to play big brother.
He wanted to tell her that she was safe and that nothing was ever going to hurt her. He didn't know that for sure though. He had no idea what she had gone through over the past 28 years. Judging by the scars on her back, nothing good.
Sam fingered through her hair, holding her close until she stopped crying. Kate pulled away from his hug and wiped away her tears.
"Are you okay?" Sam asked even though he already knew the answer. Kate nodded yes, but her heart and her head screamed no. "Do you wanna talk about it?"
"No." She said quietly. Sam gave her a sad look; he wished that she would talk to him. He wanted to help her. He silently leaned over and kissed her forehead. Kate smiled at the gesture and laid back down on the bed. Sam quietly went back to his bed and took one last glance at Kate. She had already reached for one of the pillows and now held it to her chest.

Morning came, and as usual Sam was the first one awake. He sat up on the bed and looked over to Kate's bed. She wasn't there. Sam quickly scanned the room until he found her on the floor. She was curled into a ball between Sam and Dean's beds. Her jet black wings wrapped around her entire body like a sleeping bag.
Sam smiled and stepped over her sleeping form. He made his way to the bathroom where he took a shower changed into jeans and a flannel. When he stepped out of the bathroom, Dean was sitting on the edge of the bed tying his shoe. He was already dressed and had set the alarm clock to play the nearest rock station. Rock n' Roll All Night by Kiss blared through the motel room.
Sam scoffed just as Kate emerged from the closet. She wore a grey tank top and a blue flannel along with jeans and combat boots.
"About time you got out of there." Kate said rushing into the bathroom. She slammed the door behind her allowing her to get some privacy.
Sam walked over to Dean and sat on the bed opposite his."Did you hear Kate last night?"
"I heard her move from the bed to the floor. What about it?"
