Kate watched as the clouds rolled over the mountain in the distance. It was one of the benefits of being dead, in heaven she got to see whatever she wanted. Right now all she wanted to see was the rolling clouds over the beautiful mountain. She breathed a sigh as she laid in the soft grass. Her heaven varied by whatever she desired. Sometimes her heaven was a beach, other times it was a meadow.
Her heaven today was a small valley at the base of a mountain, gorgeous. Kate rolled over in the grass and closed her eyes. Since she was dead, she didn't need sleep, but it still felt good. The bright sunshine kept her warm as she dozed off.
She was almost asleep when someone interrupted her nap.
"Kate." Castiel spoke.
Kate moaned. She didn't like to be interrupted, especially when she was sleeping.
"Kate!"
"What?" she asked. Kate sat up on the grass to face the voice. There was no one there.
"Cass?" she inquired.
"Kate! Can you hear me?" Cass' voice was clear yet there was no one nearby.
"Yes. Cass how are you here? You've been banished from heaven."
"Listen Kate, I don't have much time. You need to come to earth." Cass said with urgency.
Kate didn't understand. Return to Earth? She couldn't do that, she had been dead for too long.
"Why?" She asked.
"I don't have time to explain, just know that you're needed here." Cass tried to explain. "Your family needs you."
Kate felt the fear settle in the pit of her stomach at the mention of her family. They needed her? Why?
"But I don't have a vessel!" Kate said, her voice raised. Sure she was an angel, she could go down there, but she needed a vessel.
"Kate. You're not like any other angel, you lived once. You were born and you died and you became an angel. You're special Kate, you don't need a vessel." Cass said.
There was sympathy in his voice. Kate knew that Cass knew how much her family meant to her. She wouldn't sit by and watch anymore.
"I know God didn't want you interfering in the world's problems before, but this is different." Cass told her. "We need you down here."
Kate felt her eyebrows raise and her fists clench tight. If there was a chance she could help her family, she would do it. Even if they didn't remember her.
"How do I get down there?" She asked firmly.
"I'll walk you through it, but..." His voice trailed off. "There is a price to pay."
Kate didn't care about a price, she needed to see her brothers.
"Alright, I'm coming."
