(Steph POV)
The first thing I noticed when I got on the beach where the fresh footprints in the otherwise smooth sand. Mat said this was a privite island right? There shouldn't be anyone else here. The second thing I noticed was a weird pice of driftwood floating by the shoar. I walked over to it... it wasn't driftwood, it was a girl. She was beaten up and bloody and bruised all over. She looked like she Hadent eaten in days. "MATHEW!" I yelled for him. He would know what to do. What if she's dead?
"Oh god oh my god, MAT!" I screamed, I'm not good around dead things, I start to hyperventilate and cry, I pull the girl up out of the water. Mathew runs my way.
"Steph! What's wrong?! Are you ok?! Are you hur-"
He stops as he sees the girl.
"What in the-" I jumped up and buried my face in his shoulder
"I I found her l-lying there and I don't know what to do! What if she's dead?!?" I'm sobbing now. Mat puts one arm around me and runs his other through his hair
"Ok," he says clearly as terrafyed as I am. Jus hiding it better. He leans down and checks for a pulse.
"She's alive." He states
I let out a sigh of relief.
"But just barley, we need to get her some food and water and clean up her cuts." He said his hands shakeing a bit and his voice trembling. Mathew picked up the girls limp body and took her inside. I went to the bedroom to find my phone to call for help but stopped. Mathew and I didn't bring our phones. H said we wouldn't need them. And I can't blame him, what he planed for was a relaxing quiet month away from stress. I wanted to help because as much as Mat thinks he can protect me and be manly, he is really as harmless and fragile as a cloud. I grab one on my long night shirts and rush back to the kitchen, where Mathew has the girl sprawled out on the breakfast bar. He was using a washcloth to clean her cuts. He looked up when I ran in,
"She looks about 10 or 11 but I'm not sure" he says a bit more confidence in his voice
"I'll go wash her off I said holding out my arms. Mat put her in my arms so I was carrying her like a baby. As I carried her to the bathroom I realized how absolutely stunning she was. She had a Sunkist face and a head of long, light brown hair. A button nose and long eyelashes with big eyes. I couldn't see the color of her eyes due to them being closed. I started a bath of warm water, and carefully laid her in it. Once she was clean I dressed her in my night shirt and took her back out to Mat. He had an Advil and a glass of water which I assume is filled with protein powder. I sit the girl up on a chair and Mathew poured the water and crushed Advil into her mouth and she swoled.
"Ok let's put her in the second bedroom. She must be exhausted." Mat said a bit relived she was still alive
We both were. Mathew scooped the girl up in his arms and carried her to the bedroom. I sat there playing with a loose thread on my cover up. Mat came back in and sat down next to me. I leand my head on his shoulder.
"She'll be ok"
He assured me. We sat like that for a little while until Mathew fall asleep. I put a blanket over him and kissed his temple before heading off to bed. And for some strange reason, I felt good.
