Ch. 6

Zoey walked into her oldest daughter's room and smiled.

"Hey baby."

"Hey mama," Lauren said.

Zoey eyed Lauren, she had been her mother for twenty four years and knew when she was hiding something from her.

"What's the matter LoLo?"

"Nothing."

Alexa walked out the bathroom and smiled weakly at her mother.

"Hey mommy."

Zoey kissed her head and hugged her.

"You better tell me what's wrong or I'll go crazy."

Alexa giggled because she knew her mother was beyond serious.

"I just had a flashback but I'm better now."

The doorbell rung and Alexa headed down the stairs to answer it. When she saw who was on the other side she slammed the door shut.

"Come on Alexa, I just wanna talk to you," Bruno pleaded.

"Now you see how it feels asshole," she shot back walking up the stairs bumping into her mother.

"Whose at the door?"

"Nobody important."

Zoey frowned at her daughter. If it was no one why was she on the verge of tears? She walked to the door and opened it, surprised to see her little girl's crush on the other end looking crushed.

"Can I help you," she asked sweetly.

Bruno explained to both Zoey and Laruen what had happened earlier. All he wanted to do was win Alexa back, and that was as clear as day.

"We'll help you."

"Excuse me?"

Laruen cracked a smile.

"I said we'll help you but only because we like you."

It was Bruno's turn to smile. Zoey spoke up.

"We'll take care of everything just make sure you show up."

He nodded and stood up.

"Thank you guys so much."

"No problem," they responed together.

Alexa huffed as her mother and sister pratically pushed her into the hotel. As soon as she walked in she saw Bruno on the stage playing a song on the piano. Once he was done he walked over to where she was sitting and kissed her cheek, handing her a rose.

"Please let me explain."

"Five minutes starting now."

He sat down across from her.

"The phone call was from my ex Ashley and I didn't want you to see me weak, which is why I left."

"So you would think that less of me?"

Bruno didn't respond.

"I'm not her Bruno."

He smiled and pecked her lips.

"I know."

"Can we start over?"

"Sure muffin top."

She laughed.

"Pick a name and stick to it."

"I like muffin top," he winked.

Just The Way You Are started playing and Bruno stood up taking Alexa with him. He began singing the lyrics softly in Alexa's ear. He kissed her lips softly and looked into her eyes. This is where he wanted to be. But like the old saying goes misery loves company, and their happiness would sooner or later be destroyed.
