Chapter 1

*Cass' POV*

I get off the bus and here the doors hissing as they close behind me and the tires screech as the bus continues on, further into the city. I pull out my phone, and change the song that’s playing through my earphones. I check the time and speed up my pace, its 8:20 I’m supposed to be in class in 15 minutes.

I rush to catch the lights and cross the street in a hurry, the red man flashing as my foot steps onto the road. Once I get across I turn the corner and walk down the street.

Looking up, I notice the jacaranda trees are out in their full purple blossom and there are purple petals scattered across the road. The early morning sun is making them seem so vibrant and light, spring could easily be my favourite season, if I didn’t enjoy autumn so much.

I can see mums helping their daughters out of the cars and many girls are rushing into school.

Normally I would be in a hurry, but I suddenly feel so relaxed and unbothered, who cares if I’m 10 minutes late? It’s only home class that I’d be missing.

I pull out my ear phones and turn off my music as I approach the school. I look to see if Lydia is there waiting, but she must have already gone to class.

Instead I see a guy leaning against the handrail on the ramp, his hair drooping over his forehead and he is texting someone. I straight away recognise him and groan, why is he here?

He looks up and around, his eyes finally resting on me, and smile taking over his face when he sees me.

“Cass!” he says as he walks over to me.

“Uh, hi” I reply hesitantly, not really in the mood for entering into conversation with him. That happy carefree feeling I had no more than 20 seconds has disappeared without a trace.

“How have you been? I haven’t seen you in ages.” He asks smiling at me, looking down into my eyes.

“Um I’ve been fine, but I don’t feel like doing this right now, I’m going to be late to class and you’re going to be even later.” I say, trying to get him to leave. He has to walk back to the boy’s school down the road, not only can that take quite a while, but he actually starts earlier than me.

I look around, all the girls have gone in and we are the only ones out here, except for a few people walking past, in a rush to get to work.

“Why are you even here, where you waiting for me?” I ask crossing my arms across my chest. My top button on my dress is never done up, but when I crossed my arms, it opened up wide, and I could see him eyeing my exposed chest.

Turning red, I quickly drop my arms, he is such a pervert, I can't even begin to imagine the dirty things he is thinking right now.

“Well if I was waiting for you, would that be so bad? Look I understand you’re not in the mood for talking, but I didn’t know that when I came. I wanted to see you Cass….” he trails off and I sigh, knowing that at some point soon I am going to give in, I can’t stay angry.
