The Prank

Kalie POV

Neil went to the back of the van grabbing bags filled with supplies.

"Grabbed a bag and carry it inside. We'll be needing these." We each grabbed a bag and started walking towards the school. Adam and I let the others lead as we slowly followed behind. Adam didn't take a bag since he was using one hand to smoke and the other to hold my hand.

"Adam, are we a couple or are you holding my hand because yours is cold?" I asked giving him a teasing smile. He returned it with a cocky grin.

"I've had a crush on you since middle school. I didn't think you liked me so I never said anything. Now that we're seniors I didn't want to leave high school without trying to ask you out. I was going to ask you in the van but I got nervous so I decided to hold your hand. You would either let me or get mad at me like Becca does. Now that you know my intentions do you want to be my girlfriend?" He asks. Stopping to put out his cigarette then placing the remains in his pocket. As I watched him I thought back to all the times I saw him in school. Never did I think that he had feelings for me. He hardly said hi or said anything to me. He always seemed focus on his music and girls were always flirting with him. I would have never guessed he liked me. He never showed any interest. I couldn't believe he wanted to be my boyfriend. "Yes Adam. I'll be your girlfriend." I said happily as we continue to walk again.                                                  

Becca pushed Neil away from her. "Keep your distance Sanderson." Becca said as we neared the high school.

"So what's the story with Neil?" I asked watching Neil walk back to Becca.

"Neil has a thing for Becca but she keeps pushing him away. He's determined to ask her out this year. He likes making her mad though. He said she's cute when she's mad." I laughed seeing how he irritates Becca all the time.

"What about Brad?" I asked as I watched Brad helping Jessie to walk.

"He's more to himself like I am but he likes Jessie. He doesn't want to admit it though. He's scared of her." I gave him a bewildered look. "Why?" I asked surprised by all this information he was sharing with me. "To him she seems wild. He doesn't think someone like her would be interested in a guy like him. They are complete opposites." I shrugged my shoulders. "You never know. Opposites do attract." I said as we reached the door to the high school.

Neil reached to open the door. It opened. It was left unlocked. Brad was still hanging on to Jessie so she wouldn't fall. She was wasted.

"I think we should leave her out here until she sobers up." Brad said trying to help Jessie balance herself.

"No. I'm fine. Let's do this!" Jessie exclaimed as she went inside the high school. We followed behind into the barely lit school. Neil then started telling us the plan.

"Adam and Kalie. Stay here and litter the floors and hallways with toilet paper, streamers, and confetti. Brad and Jessie do the same but inside the classrooms. Me and Becca will do the bathrooms then help with the classrooms. Any questions?"

I was looking inside the bags at all the supplies we were going to use. "Wow Neil! You sure did plan this out." Neil smile widely, happy that someone was noticing his efforts. Becca rolled her eyes. "I had all summer to plan it out and buy supplies. I wanted to spice up the school. It'll look great once were done with it. Let's get started."

Everyone went to their spot as me and Adam stayed to decorate the hallways. Neil even had a large bag filled with balloons that we had fun kicking and hitting across to each other. The school was transforming into a party. I couldn't wait to see everyone's faces Monday. It was going to be great! Me and Adam were having a blast throwing confetti, streamers, and balloons at each other. The confetti getting stuck in our hair and clothes. We laughed at each other seeing how we both were covered. I've never had so much fun, especially in school.

Becca POV

"Why do you act so weird?" I asked Neil. Ever since we started school he has been so annoying. More than usual. We were in the girl's restroom littering the floor with balloons and streamers. Neil was filling the sink with water and putting a floating duck to swim in the sink. He glanced at my direction.

"I'm only weird when I'm around you. That should make you feel special." He said pulling out a can of shaving cream to put on the toilet seat then putting a smiley face on the mirror.

"Why do you?" I asked fearing the answer.

"Maybe it's because I like you and want to get to know you." He said as he continued to decorate. I didn't know how to take in that information. I liked Neil. Being in a relationship would be something new for me and I wasn't sure if I was ready for that. Neil had experience and I didn't. Safer to just keep my distance. "In your dreams Sanderson." I said feeling better about my decision. Neil smiled making me feeling nervous again. It was his teasing smile. "Promise." I decided to ignore him. "Let's finish so we can go to the next one."

Suddenly we hear someone talking on the intercom. "I Need Help Now! Jessie wants to burn the school down. Why was she even allowed to come? No Jessie!!" Brad yelled and then it went silent.

I stared at Neil as he looked at me. We both started running towards the principal's office. Kalie and Adam were also running towards it. We joined them as we went inside to see Brad trying to grab the whiskey bottle from Jessie's hand but she kept moving it away from him.

"Thisss willl be the besssst prank everrr." Jessie slurred as she poured the whiskey on the floor. She then pulled a lighter out from her pocket. Did she have this planned? Everything that happened next seemed to be in slow motion. Brad grabbed at the lighter to get it away from her. It slips out of her hand and falls causing a spark from the impact of the fall. A flame started to form. We watched in horror as it started to grow. We were going to be in so much trouble. Neil, Brad, and Adam start stomping on the flames to extinguish it.

"Becca call the fire department. The phone is on the desk. Then get Kalie and Jessie out of here." Neil yelled as they grabbed the curtains to put over the flames. I called the fire department then me and Kalie grabbed Jessie and went out of the school towards the van. We could hear the sirens in the far distance as we waited inside the van. I was hoping the guys would be ok. I worriedly watch as the fire department came and went inside the school.
