It couldn't be.

Natasha was still struggling to accept the fact that she had a being growing within her - a being belonging to Clint.

Of all the people, the person she wanted to forget.

She was torn, unprepared, she couldn't do this by herself.

A frightening thought crossed her mind: maybe she shouldn't keep it.

It wouldn't be fair, to be born into the world when its parents were apart, to live life separated from its father, and Natasha knew it would all be her fault.

But it was alive, a life, and she couldn't bring herself to end it.

And the fact that the child survived the blast - it must mean something. How strong and precious, a miracle.

After all that had happened, it chose to come now, a physical reminder of Clint where memories failed.

It held on, held strong, seeking to preserve the tie between its parents.

And maybe that was what Natasha needed - a reason.

She had been cooping herself in the house, and specifically the bedroom for days, withdrawn into a corner of the bed with her legs gathered to her chest.

She could suddenly feel the life swirling within her tummy, a positive energy, even though it caused her much suffering.

With nervous fingers, she touched her tummy tentatively, stiff at first then shaky but warm.

"You gonna tell him?"

Natasha looked up and found Bucky standing by the door.

She looked away for she did not have an answer.

It would only be right and fair if he knew, it was his child after all. But she didn't know what would happen after he knew, so she was afraid.

Soon, Bucky was sitting on the bed next to her.

He laid a hand on her knee and squeezed gently.

"You can't run away from this forever, Natasha."

"I know, but-"

"You should give him a chance. Try."

Try. She hadn't tried, hadn't given him nor herself a chance.

"The child - it's giving you a chance. Miracles don't always come by. So take it, and try."

Natasha looked up at Bucky, his chocolate-brown eyes bleeding so much kindness, his smile soft and encouraging.

Natasha knew he was right. Bucky doesn't lie, and especially not to her.

And he was nobly giving up his own happiness for her sake, she could never repay this debt, the only way was to not let him down.
