Natasha walked up the door nervously.

What if Clint didn't want her anymore after what she'd put him through? What if he'd given up on her and found someone else, someone better? He had a right to, it had all been her fault after all.

With shaking fingers, Natasha pressed the doorbell.

The door opened moments later, revealing a fresh-looking Clint.

His expression immediately softened when he saw her, though he was surprised.

"Natasha..."

Before she could say anything through her quivering lips, Natasha burst into tears.

She hated herself right then - for hurting him so badly. She almost felt that she didn't deserve him anymore.

Her vision was blurred by the curtain of tears but soon she felt a warmth enveloping her, and familiar, strong arms around her waist and back, holding her close.

His familiar smell, the familiar firmness of his chest, and the familiar calluses of his fingers on the back of her neck, carding through her hair.

"I'm so sorry, Clint, so so sorry." She choked out against his shoulder, fingers digging into the fabric of his shirt, afraid of letting go.

"Shhh, it's okay, there's no need to apologise, Sweetheart." He soothed in a soft voice, edges coloured by happiness and relief.

Upon hearing that familiar pet name, she cried even harder, shocked at how there was no anger or coldness in his voice. It actually made her feel worse. But then again, he was Clint, and Clint was a good man.

"Don't you hate me?" Natasha pulled away and looked up at him, his face all tenderness and love.

"Tasha, I could never hate you." He assured, a hand curling against her cheek so gently, holding her like she was glass.

"Because I love you."

"Clint..."

In a flash, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips to his.

He responded immediately, full of longing - for her taste, her touch, her love.

The kiss lasted for what seemed like an eternity, as they took their time to find each other once again, like before, but also differently, new, better.

Sometime during their lip lock, Clint had lifted her up and carried her into the house, their house.

He set her, light on her feet, as they continued, never wanting to pull away, for fear of losing each other's touch.

But the need for oxygen got in their way and they finally separated, but only an inch, with their foreheads and noses against each other's.

As they gasped for breath, they could only smile.

Clint hadn't smiled in ages. Natasha hadn't smiled genuinely in ages, she now found that only he could evoke real happiness in her.

"I remembered."

"I never forgot."

Natasha grinned and laced her fingers with Clint's, guiding his hand to her tummy.

"You're gonna be a dad soon." Natasha whispered, only for his ears.

Clint's face was a mix of disbelief and joy. He looked back and forth between Natasha and her tummy, too stunned and happy for words, with only a silly grin on his face.

"That's the second best thing that's ever happened to me." He wrapped an arm round her back and pressed a kiss to her forehead, to which Natasha closed her eyes and hummed in content.

"Second best?"

"The first best thing is you. It always has been you and always will be you."

Natasha felt her heart melt. She looked down at their interlocked hands and found the cool metal around Clint's ring finger. He never removed it.

Clint then reached into his shirt and pulled out the ring hanging on the chain around his neck. That was hers.

He pulled it over his head, removed the ring, and slid it over her left finger.

Then they were complete.

With foreheads pressed together, the couple looked down at where their little bundle of joy was growing.

Clint placed a hand on his wife's tummy.

"I love you."
