Hunting them down

The two had rode out of the cave and came back into town. "Beau..... I'm proud of you, head to the stables...." She nods as she slows her run into a tired walk. She walks into the stables and stops as he gets off then the animal sits on the ground. "Rest and stay here." She nods and drifts to sleep as the sheriff sneaks back in to Sheriff Dice's home. Taking off his pants and vest, his lies down in the bed provided to him and thinks about what had happened. "After this, these rumors and everything, this definitely confirms it.... Now that I know what I'm up against, I should now start preparing for them.... But then again, they healed up in a instant when I shot a cap into his brain! How is that possible.... And those claws..... I think they can do much more than break fences, wood and sheds....."

"Hmmmm...."

"But I do recall seeing 7 of them..... And wait...." He thinks back to when he saw all 7 of those creatures. "Something was off about one of them... Though I can't put my finger on it...." He lies away in the bed as he turns to his side.

"Hmph....... Looks like I'm gonna have to hunt them monsters down...."

Sheriff Toofier yawns as he looks down at his breakfast. "Hmmmmm......"

"What's wrong Mack? Didn't sleep right?"

"Or is it that you're not hungry Mr. Toofier? I can pack up your plate or -"

"No darlin, it's not that. Sorry for my inconvenience, I was just a bit tired that's all...."

"No, no, no, it's ok! You're a sheriff and you must have a lot of things on you mind...."

"Yeah Mack, it's fine and besides, we can always go out and relax."

"Uh-huh...."

"Mack. Are you sure you ok? You seem.... distracted.... Partner."

"I'm fine.... just thinking about the town and the reason why I came here."

"Ok then.... Wanna head out to check up on the town?"

"Sure. Afterwards I have something to do...." He nods and they eat their breakfast which was delightful. Afterwards, the two sheriffs head out into town while the girl went to play with her friends. "So Mack you mind tell'n me what's wrong?"

"What do you mean?"

"Mack, I know you well enough to tell when something is wrong. It's one thing to be a sheriff but it's another to be a terrible liar. Sure, you can probably get a few past me but it's only a matter of time til I find out. And usually, it's about a day or two later." He sighs and chuckles to himself.

"Am I really that bad?"

"Yup!"

"Wow...."

"Uh-huh, now are you gonna tell me or not?"

"Fine I'll tell you. Remember when I told you about Pete's farm yesterday?"

"I believe so."

"Well last night I snuck out and waited at the farm to see those creatures...."

"What happened?"

"Easy, those monsters or whatever they are showed up and we're gonna take a pig until I stopped them."

"Really?!? What did they look like?"

"Beasts. Monsters. Creatures. Creatures of the dark. They look like wolfs but sure as hell ain't one."

"Then what's so dangerous about them?"

"Everything. Their claws can definitely cut more than wood and sheds if they can cut it easily. And its..... Its body! It's like some sort of super ability where it can heal in a instant."

"You sure?"

"Yes! I popped a bullet in the sucker's skull and the wound healed like it was nothin and spits out the bullet!"

"Hmmmm......"

"And another thing is that they are very stealthy but smart ones."

"No wonder we can never catch them...."

"Uh-huh and the last thing is their speed. They almost catch Beau and me but we lucky got away by jumping the cavern."

"Woah...."

"Yup, that's what I meant by creatures that no one ever saw before. That's why I'm gonna go hunt them down." Sheriff Dice stops his fellow friend and puts a hand up in front of his face.

"Hold it right there partner. I know and understand but you can't just go out then hunt for them!"

"Why not? We need to stop these monstrous bastards!"

"But you only escaped because of a cavern! For god sakes man, think about this!"

"I did and I'm going to do it. Alone. No one deserves this nor getting harmed." His friend was about to counter that until a memory popped up and he laughs.

"Man...."

"What is it?"

"I remember how I was usually the risky one but it always ended badly." Sheriff Toofier chuckles as memories flow in.

"You're right.... And when I was the one being risky I succeeded and it when well."

"Well I can't stop you and I won't. Do it. Hunt them down and make them pay. The only one able to wreak this town is me and me alone."

"You got it boss." Tipping his hat, he goes his separate way to the stable while behind him was his friend watching. "I believe in you.... brother...."

Mack was riding Beau, looking for at least a clue for them. "Beau you see anything?" She shakes her head and neighs. "They have to be somewhere around here..... Come out you vermins!!!" There was no response as he sighs and looks around. "Hmmmmmm....." He looks back to last night and realizes what he had to do. "Beau. Remember the areas where those creatures ran to? Take us there. They might have somethin goin on in there." She nods and turns around as they head off towards the low vegetated area. "Time to see if they left any tracks...." After riding for 15 minutes and eating a snack, they arrive in a slow pace. "Hmmmm..... Be careful and on guard Beau, these things are out to kill...." Nodding again, they look around for any traces for them. They did find a few here and there but mainly not much. They did try tracking some of the traces but didn't lead very far. "Alrighty Beau, let's go. We found and track what we could...." The horse neighs as she turns around and starts running back to town. "Let's see if anything new came up in town..."
