"Have you had your first kiss?"
My heartbeat quickened. I could feel my face turn to a deep red. I didn't know how to answer. I couldn't answer. My mouth wouldn't let me. No matter how hard I tried. I struggled silently for words.
"I-I um..." Was all I managed to get out. I felt nauseous, and it was hard to breathe. "N-no I haven't..." I cleared my throat.
She put her hand on mine, and intertwined my fingers with hers.
"A-am I moving t-too fast?" She asked me nervously.
"N-no..." I moved closer to her and put my feet in the water. I leaned my head on her shoulder, and waited for her to move. But she didn't. She stayed.
I lifted my head and turned to her. She did the same, and she met my gaze. I couldn't stand the silence, so I moved in closer.
It was passionate, and lasted for a long time.
I pulled back. " 'Am I moving too fast?' " I repeated her words, giggled, then leaned in again.
clap
I pulled back quickly and moved away, my face a bright red.
clap, clap
At this point, it sounded like applause from several people. About five at the most.
"This the new girl?" I heard a guys voice from behind me. I moved farther away from April.
"And her girlfriend?" Said another, in a mocking tone.
" 'Have you had your first kiss?' Oh how adorable!" Said a girl.
I felt like i was going to throw up. I needed to get out of here. But I couldn't go anywhere. At least not with them standing behind me. Moving in closer.
Closer.
Closer.
They were right behind us.
"Spur of the moment guys. It's not like it matters." April said, shrugging. She was acting like it was nothing.
"See, new girl? Your girlfriend thinks you're a bad kisser, and now we all know you're a lesbo." Said the first boy.
But that wasn't true. At least the bad kisser part. Right? It was so passionate. She couldn't possibly shrug it off like that. Right? So much for staying out of drama. I thought to myself. And of course, I didn't have time to think.
I felt a big push against my back, and I fell into the cold water of the lake.
I swam to the top, only to find that one of the boys was lying on the dock, with a bloody nose, nearly knocked out. The other two were running back towards the woods by the lake.I coughed hard. "W-what happened to him?" I said, shivering.
"Nothing you should worry about." April said, in an unusually gentle voice. " We should probably leave." She said as she helped me out of the water and wrapped her jacket around me.
"D-did you r-really mean what you said b-back there?" I whispered as we started to walk away from the dock.
"W-we did just meet, but to be completely honest, you're a great kisser." She said, with pink cheeks.
I felt a smile creep up the corners of my lips, and my face went straight back to a deep red again. I snuggled closer to her for warmth, and she hugged me a little tighter at her side.
