Chapter Sixteen

Tanner's POV

Cora and I kept on debating which restaurant to go to. It took us a long time to choose since no one would concede between us. It's either we go to a place she loves and I hate, or vice versa.  We saw this newly opened restaurant not knowing this restaurant was for couples. Famished enough, we had no choice but to pretend like we're couple.

Earlier in chemistry, as soon as the bell rang we left and decided to skip school. Cora didn't feel like going to school and so did I. It's not like we missed the whole day. At least we still went to first and second period and that's enough for a student. Too much schooling will be the death of students.

This is the third time the waitress passed our table. Every time the waitress would come near us we would think the food is ours so we always end up disappointed. Cora and I did random shit while waiting for the food. At first, we talked about people in school who made us uncomfortable. I told her mine were Baninay and Ali. Cora said that everyone in school made her uncomfortable but she got used to it. She also mentioned how my brother crept the fuck out of her but then later on said that she got over it and that Tyler seems like a nice guy.

Step by step, I'm glad my brother is actually slowing things down with Cora (It's not like she has a chance with her). Usually, he gets all the hoes he wants. But this, this chic in front of me, changed my brother's life. Now, he's learned his lesson. Thanks to Cora, she lowered my brother's ego and made him realize that he can't always get what he wants. Even though my brother is an asshole I would still be in his side no matter what.

Finally, the waitress came to our table with food.

She gave Cora her dish. "For you, Ms. Waddell." She smiled as she served. Cora and I exchanged glances and tried to stay serious until the waitress leaves. "And for you, Mr. Mata. You know you guys make a good couple. Enjoy ma'am and sir!"

We started cracking up when the waitress left. We dug through our food right after the food was served to us. Even though we had seconds, the food still wasn't enough for us. We weren't content with seconds, we needed something more than that.

"There's always room for dessert!" Cora rubbed her stomach like a pregnant woman.

"Do you have a ring?" I asked.

Cora looked confused but still gave me her ring. "Just go with the flow." I whispered.

I stood up and cleared my throat. Cora's still clueless of what I'm about to do. "I've always been in love with you since the day I met you. I remember underestimating you. I thought that you were just like other girls who would fall for me within seconds but you proved me wrong. You made me work hard for this relationship. All those guys drooling for you yet, you chose me and for that I'm thankful. I Tanner Mata, promise you that I will not waste this opportunity so Coraleen Waddell, will you marry me?" I spoke loud enough to make everybody look in our direction.

Cora gasped. "Tell me this isn't one of your pranks! Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh! Yes! Of course I'll marry you!" Cora got up as soon as I put the ring on her finger and hugged me. We hugged for about five seconds.

"That a girl!" I whispered.

"Eww." She whispered back.

Everybody was clapping and greeted us congratulations including the all the workers. The manager congratulated us by giving free desserts. After greeting us, everybody went back to their seats.

"You wanted desserts right?" I winked.

The waitress later on came with three kinds of desserts. "Congratulations, sir and ma'am! Both of you guys have good genes so I won't be surprised if you'll have good looking children. As you guys are the first customers who got engaged, here are some free desserts for you guys. Please enjoy."

Me and Cora looked at each surprisingly as the waitress left. "We're the first customer to get engaged. What the fuck! Guess we're gonna have to pretend we're engaged for today." I whispered.

She looked at me with a disgusted face but then later on shook it off. "Hmm, what do I call you?" Cora tapped her cheek with her index finger three times. "Honey? Sugar? Flour? Bake at 450°?" She snorted.

I scratched the back of my neck. "Shut up and eat your dessert."

"Seriously Tanner? We've only been engaged for like 5 minutes and you're already acting like the boss?" Cora pouted.

I took her dessert away from her. "You're already high you don't need chocolate right now."

She raised her right eyebrow. "If you don't give that back to me, you're gonna have to pay for the desserts. I'm telling."

I rolled my eyes and gave her the dessert.

"So, where to now?" Cora asked as I left a tip on the table.

"Follow me, milady." I winked and took her hand.

"The one, please." I pointed at the light pink teddy bear Cora has been trying to get since we got here.

She went and used the restroom so I decided to get her this teddy bear since she couldn't do it. She came up to me staring at the bear the whole time. I handed it to her.

She smiled. "Thanks!" Her face brightened for a second but was replaced with a frown.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

She gave the bear back and got two key chains. The bear is for a hundred points and each key chain is fifty points. One is Wonder Woman and the other one is Superman. "This is supposed to be yours, so here you go one for each of us."

"You sure you don't want the bear? Because you looked petty earlier trying to get that." I joked.

She swat me in the arm playfully. "Here you go Superman. Or Super Mata. Hah! I got you a name! Finally!"

I took the Wonder Woman key chain from her. "And here is yours, Wonder Cora. Hah got you a name too!"

We both laughed and left. We decided to go to a bar even though it was too early. Good thing we weren't wearing uniforms no more. I sat on one of the tables waiting for the snacks we ordered since Cora went to a shop next to this bar.

"For you sir." The waiter served. "And for your fiancée?" The waiter looked for Cora.

Me and Cora are still pretending to be so called "engaged."

"Oh she's next door getting something." I said. The waiter nodded and left.

"Tanner?" I took a sip from my drink and chocked as I hear a familiar voice say my name.
