Assassin's Creed: Prophecy

The Contract

11:38 p.m. March 16th, 2015

The rain falls down on the streets of New York City, pounding the hoods and roofs of cars and taxis. My clothes are getting soaked to the bone, but I do not hesitate or run. I keep a steady pace to avoid too much attention.

I look up from the sidewalk, adjusting my hood, to see the building I was looking for.

412 Wall Street.

My target's apartment.

"Eagle to Bureau. I'm at the target's location. Permission to engage?" I say into my earpiece.

"Roger that, Eagle, you have permission to catch the prey. Bureau out," responds the Advisor.

I click it off and scale the apartment complex's first floor and land softly on the fire escape.

After continuous climbing I reach the targets quarters, and slip inside the window.

"Oh my- who are you?! Get out of my home!"

I turn to see a man, in his mid 40s, holding a knife with slight fear in his eyes.

"Whoa listen. I just need a single thing, and that's it," I say, in my most reassuring voice.

"And what would that be?" He says as he lowers his knife ever so slightly.

"Your life."

And in a swift flick of my right wrist, my hidden blade springs into action and is quickly pierced through my target's heart. I lower his dying form to the floor.

"Your objective was just, but your ways were wrong. If only you realized earlier. Requiescat in pace," as I close his eyelids one last time.

I carry his body to his bed and fill and cover the fatal wound, to avoid suspicion, and tucked him neatly under his bed sheet.

I turned to his desk and collected useful information: his phone, notebook, and a bracelet to honour him by.

"Eagle, come in. Did you catch the prey?"

I flick my side of the earpiece back on.

"Affirmative. I have successfully killed the target."

"Good work, Toby. Now head back to our bureau. We need to speak with you."

"Roger that," I say as I continue back down the fire escape, back down to the sprawling streets, where they have no clue that I have taken a valuable life.
