I exited the Animus with a headache. How the hell could he have gotten into the systems? My thoughts however were quickly changed when Sloan barged out of the elevator.
"Toby! Seriously bad news!" he frantically said.
"Alright let's hear it," I said.
"Well you remember the dude that killed our Mentor a few years back?"
I blinked. "Yeah what about him?"
"Well we just received this direct video. And it's from him."
He walked over to my computer, plugged in a USB stick, and opened up a video. And, like I just saw him yesterday, the traitor.
"Hello there, Toronto Brotherhood leaders!" He exclaimed in a cheerful tone. "I'm terribly sorry I hadn't yet congratulated you two on becoming the Mentors of this Brotherhood and others! And in case you're wondering, my name, is Darren James Edward."
I gasped out loud and Sloan looked at me funny.
"Hey man, you alright?" He asks.
"He was the Templar Grand Master in 1898. He's the one Marius was hunting."
Sloan's jaw dropped.
As if on cue, Darren kept talking. "So, just to let you know of my plans, the Templars are going to destroy every single on of your remaining hideouts to end you all permanently. And, don't pretend like I don't know where they are, and how many you are. It's sad that only Toronto, Austin, Dubai, Italy, and the Soviet Union are the only safe havens you have. But still, better safe than sorry. We are launching the attacks at random at any moment so get ready! And by the way Toby, how's Marius doing? Goodbye friends!" And with that, the video ended.
"So when did you get this?" I ask Sloan.
"Oh only today, at around 6:45. Why?"
Before I could answer, my personal work phone rang so I picked it up.
"Hello?" I ask.
"Toby! It's me, Trent! Mentor of the Austin brotherhood! I'm calling because we need immediate assist!" A panicked voice said.
"Wait, Trent, what do you mean? What's going on?"
"The Templars! They've found us! They're com-aahhh!"
The phone's speaker almost burst at the sound of the guns firing.
Then, another voice spoke.
"Why hello there, Toby! Long time no see."
It was Darren.
"You," I growl into the phone. "What are you?!"
He thought for a minute, and then laughed. "What am I? You are the ones who kill to create peace! I simply dream of a better way to create it! And, to answer your question, I am successful. Very successful. And I will be in the future. Goodbye!"
And with that, he hung up, leaving me terrified and determined.
