brendon loved used book stores.

they were always so cozy and they smelled so nice and they were so pleasing to his eyes. he liked to google used book stores and visit all the ones he could in one day so that his small backpack he carried around everywhere was full of books, and he made sure he was carrying so many that it was impossible to have use of his hands before the day was up. with his always small-looking appearance, helped by the too-big glasses that always slipped down his nose, his preference for oversized sweaters in pastel colors that ate him alive, and his shoes that somehow made his feet look very small, he was always asked by strangers if he needed help opening doors or unlocking his car.

today, he visited a new store he'd never been to. it seemed to be a little family run shop on the corner of a street. he walked in and looked around him to see rows of long shelves that were all filled with tattered and loved on books. he beamed and dug into the store.

after about an hour of carefully scouring the bookcases, brendon settled on six books of various sizes. he payed for all six and began to head for the door, but felt his glasses slipping down his nose quicker than he could twist his head to his shoulder to push them up. he sighed when they fell to the floor, and the only way to rescue them was to set down the large volumes of game of thrones novels, biographies, and young adult books that were sure to be made into cheesy movies. he looked down at the blurred outline of his glasses on the floor pathetically.

"oh dear, i think you dropped these," a gentle voice said, and he saw a blurry hand pick his glasses up and proceed to attempt to hand them to him. brendon looked up at the stranger and look back down at his hands that were not of much help and then back up at the stranger. the man then carefully placed his glasses back on his face, making sure they were high enough so that they wouldn't fall off again.

"thank you," brendon said quietly.

"no problem," said the stranger. "dallon, by the way."

"hi, dallon. i'm brendon."
