   [ Chapter 1 : Legendary Witch? ]

"The witch, Medea. She isn't pure. She is a fragment of my power that was mixed with a dark witch's magic. A witch that you know." Lord Death explained to Professor Stein and Spirit. "Up until her sixth birthday, her family of witches taught her to be merciless, and to kill anything that wasn't on their side. But she couldn't do it, and they got fed up with dealing with her. Her soul was, and still is, in fact, extremely powerful, but also very kind.

"She is one of the strongest and most powerful witches that every lived. She was rejected by her kind because she couldn't kill innocents, and even her own mother refused to let her stay. They sent her off with a black cloak, nothing else.

"She wandered around, until she came across an abandoned town known as Black Fog. She stayed there for five years."

"She's a witch, right? And every witch has a spiritual animal to represent her. What is Medea's?" Spirit wondered aloud.

"An ancient mythological legend, a hybrid of two hybrids, the Grimera. It is a mix between a Griffin and Chimera."

"Mythological...?" Stein asked, surprised. "I've only heard of one other witch having a creature of myth as her spirit."

"Yes. The mother of Medusa was a Cerberus. Medea is Medusa's daughter."

                   Five Years Back: Medea

I hide in my abandoned shed of a house. It has one room; the kitchen. After lighting the fire, I take a big bite out my warm croissant that I had made just minutes before with my, or, rather, this house's owner's, oven. Of course, there is warm, melting chocolate in it. I wouldn't consider it a treat if it hadn't any chocolate.

Oh, did I mention that I'm eleven? I've been hiding out in this long-abandoned city for five years, with no one to talk to but the mice and the occasional cat. I've taken a liking to calling this city Black Fog, because it's always misty and gloomy around here. It's like this place has its own private cloud of darkness hanging above it.

I hear something. Some kind of whooshing sound coming from outside. I peek out the cracked door-frame that had no actual door to occupy it. There is a boy standing on a skateboard, hovering above the ground. I quickly exorcise my Soul Protect ability so that he doesn't catch me. By the looks of him, he is either an advanced meister or a student from the school, Shibusen, that I heard about from my own kind. If he were to sense that I'm a witch, it'd be trouble.

He zooms past me, and my heart pounds. He looked right at me. He knows I'm here. I am hiding behind a small bookshelf, but he still found me. What if, even through my Soul Protect, he knows that I'm a witch? I don't want to cause him any harm, but if he's a Shibusen student, he'd kill me!

Cautiously, I follow him. As a Witch of Mythology, I can make myself invisible, but I still limit myself to the shadows of crumbled and destroyed buildings. At one point, because I am so focused on staying undetected, I almost trip over an abnormally large piece of stone from the central house. This makes, thankfully, barely any noise, and since the boy is so far ahead on his floating skateboard, he can't hear it..

Soon, I begin to pick up speed, as not to lose sight of him. Suddenly, to my surprise, the boy stops. "I know you're there." He says, his back still to me. "I was wondering how long you'd be following me."

I decide that maybe if I stay quiet, he'll give up and leave. Maybe he'll think that his mind fooled him. Maybe... But no. He doesn't continue forward. He just hovers in the air, his back to me, waiting for me to say something. Soon enough, he gets off his skateboard and puts it on a large ruin, sitting down next to it.
