    [ Chapter 2 : Celebration or Argument? ]

                     Present Day: Medea

(Longer chapter for you guys WOOHOO!)

The professor and I made our way to the ballroom. I couldn't stop trembling. Just as we were about to enter the loud room full of people, I quickly reached out and grabbed Professor Stein's sleeve.

"Wait!" I whisper. "What... should I do...? About Medusa..."

"Do what any normal person would do; nothing. Let Shinigami-sama and the deathscythes take care of it."

I really don't want to argue with him, but I can't contain it. "But I'm not a normal person; no one at this school is! I can't just sit around and do nothing, letting other people take care of my problems!"

"Ah, you want to solve your own problems. I admire you, you know. But in this situation, it really is better for you to relax and forget about all of this. I know it'll be hard for you, but try enjoy yourself tonight, Medea."

"I can't!" I say, louder than needed. Several people standing near me look back with a startled expression.

"Please, just try." He says, sighing. He's making his mild annoyance very obvious to me.

"Okay..." I say, finally giving in.

"Great. Now go talk to Soul or Maka." He says, then adds, "Kid-kun is still instructing the Shinigami-sama on giving public speeches."

I walk toward Maka. "Hey, Maka, chan." I say casually, as if what had happened hadn't happened.

"Oh. Hi, Medea-san." Maka says, smiling brightly. Soul waves lazily.

"So, Kid-kun's going pretty hard-core on his father, huh." I say, glancing to the side of the room where the two of them are standing. Kid is waving his arms furiously with a frustrated, "You just don't get it!" look in his eyes. The Shinigami is just standing there, looking quite confused. I had to choke back a laugh.

"Yeah. The guy's preaching about 'public speaking.' I feel bad for his dad, though." Soul says, smiling his crooked smile.

"And, of course, Kid's speech was absolute perfection. Speaking of which, why'd you miss it? And why did you come out of the hall with the professor?"

"... Um... Oh hey, look! They're serving ice cream!" I shout, trying to distract her from the topic.

"First of all, that was a lame attempt. Second, don't try to change the subject." Maka says.

"YAHOO! TIME FOR YOU TO FIGHT ME!" Black Star's voice screams from somewhere. I look up and see him on top of the huge candle that sticks out of the wall. He jumps down and runs at me. I easily dodge him by moving to the side.

"HEY! DON'T JUST JUMP OFF CANDLES!" Kid yells from the other side of the room, now making his way hastily toward Black Star.

"SHUT UP, WEIRDO!" He yells back.

        "THIS ISN'T YOUR PARTY!"

        "WELL, IT ISN'T YOURS, EITHER!"

"GUESS WHO'S SCHOOL IT'S AT!" Kid Is now shouting in Black Star's face.

"YOUR FATHER'S! NOT. YOURS!" Black Star Is yelling back in his face.

"WHO CARES?! THAT DOESN'T GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO JUMP OFF OF SYMMETRICAL CANDLES!"
