The blaring of the annoying alarm clock rung through her ears. Her hand automatically shot out to stop the deafening tone. She slowly opened her eyes to be drowned out with the sun shining brightly through the windows. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she shoved the covers off her legs and hung them over the side.
Another day has come and yet, she feels no different.
What had happened to her?
She used to be more than this. More than the scars. More than the heavy bags under her eyes. More than the pain.
She took a deep breath hauling her slim body off the bed and stalking into the en suite bathroom. She didn't dare look into the mirror and see the reflection of herself. Her beaten down, bruised, and scarred self.
The steaming, hot water flowed from the shower as she slipped off her clothes and carefully stepped in. It beat down her sore back but she remained still. She didn't dare move when it felt good, a relieving kind of pain.
She was to used to this. This life that has taken over and pushed away the old one. There were only glimpses she would sometimes catch of what was in her past. Short little memories that brought a glimpse of what happiness was. What happiness had meant to her, she may never know.
She slowly opened her eyes after finishing washing off as much dirt as she possibly could and yet, she still felt filthy. She felt like a disgusting piece of existence.
She never saw what she truly was, only what she heard is what she believed. She was a beautiful, small girl, with long, curly, brown hair that cascaded down her back. Light green eyes that at one time in her life shined so bright. She was thin and short, but with tan, long legs. She never saw herself as any of it. She saw herself as ugly and fat. As a whore who deserved no more than what she had.
The people that told her those things don't know the story behind her darkness. They will never know the pain and misery she suffers each and everyday. Though they know nothing, they choose to make fun as if they knew everything.
The steam encased her frail body as she stepped out of the shower, wrapping a towel around her petite frame. Still not daring to look at the reflection in the now foggy mirror. She stalked into her room and towards her closet. Securing the towel, she dug out a pair of skinny jeans, a large, purple hoodie, and black converse. She carefully and slowly slipped on underwear and her clothes.
She checked the time on the clock and walked towards the door separating her from the beast. She placed her hands on the doorknob, taking a deep breath, and slowly turned it. She listened carefully for any noise that would give the beast away. It was silent in the old house so she decided it was fairly safe to leave her room. She fully opened the door and peered down the long, ominous hallway.
She avoided the boards that she knew would creak and give away her position if the beast was still inside the house. She could see the front door in her view as she landed onto the last step. Her head turned to both sides and she crept her way to the door. If the beast was here and found out that she left without warning, she would have to pay. She figured she would pay just as bad anyway, so if she could leave without pain she chose that path.
Her hand turned the doorknob to the front of the house slowly and opened the door. She checked behind her and saw nothing, heard nothing. She closed the door behind her along with her eyes as she breathed a sigh of relief. She stepped down the stairs of the front porch and made her way towards a different kind of pain.
