"We create our own demons."
~ AnonymousPrologue
The sun shined on the revolver's barrel, as it is pointed at me. Blood was splattered all over the walls, and soaking into the carpet. All I could do was stare at the masked man. "You're next." The masked man promised.
"Why?" I whimpered, as the deafening crack of a shot filled the small room. At first I hadn't felt the bullet enter my body, until I hit the ground. Then I was in agony. Something wet was threw over me. Oil. The man walked to the door, struck a match and threw it into the closest puddle of oil, closest to my baby brothers head.
Fire was everywhere and it consumed everything that I loved.
I open my eyes slowly, my body ached. Everything hurt. It always did, it's been two months but they pain never goes away. Never. "Lucca." I mumble. At the sound of my voice a man shuffles into my view, he's holding a glass of water and a couple of pain killers. He sits crossed legged beside me, handing me the tablets first. "Thank you." I put the tablets in my mouth and accept the glass of water using it to help me swallow the tablets. Lucca, looked down at me with gentle blue eyes. He has the most interesting eye colour. At a distance they look blue, but they are laced with black and a fiery gold near the pupil. His long, scruffy, black hair sticks out at all angles and falls into his face, he has darkness under his eyes that hint at the little sleep he has had lately.
"Is there anything you want me to do now?" He asks, his voice soft. I shake my head.
"Just stay here." He nods.
Days drag by like this. On and on they go. Always the same. Only having Lucca for company. Did you ever notice how loud silence is? It's deafening, too much of it can be maddening. Then the noise starts.
Lucca frowns at his laptop, I can't hear anything. He has his earphones in but judging by the thin line of his lips and the disgust in his eyes, it isn't good. "Your masked man is back."
I look over his shoulder. Turns out he was reading a news article. My breath catches in my throat as I read a story so horrific and similar to mine, it makes my stomach clench and bile rise in my throat. "We have to stop him." Lucca merely nods his head but says nothing.
"A deal is a deal." He says, as a reminder. I had sold my soul to this man, and I am never going to get it back.
