“Some infinities are bigger than other infinities.”
~ John Green, The Fault In Our Stars
Chapter 5
One of my favourite things in the world is just to sit in Lucca’s car. I like to just sit there with all the windows down, a blanket over my lap, a CD playing in the background and a book. He would lie on the roof watching the sky.
It’s peaceful. All my worries can melt away simply because it feels like nothing will happen. I wish these tiny moments could be more than what they are; small and insignificant.
His car smells faintly of him, and has worn leather seats that you just melt into. It’s an old Camaro, but it has its charm.
Lucca taps the window. “Don’t you fall asleep in there, ‘cause I’m not carrying your skinny ass back inside.” He warns, playfully, leaning over the window to peer in at me.
“I’ll gladly sleep in the car. There’s more room for me!” I smile, while sticking my tongue out at him.
He rolls his eyes and disappears from view entirely.
The sun is beginning to go down, making the sky turn multiple colours; blue, orange, pink and gold. I let Lifehouse play in the background as I watch the setting sun. I imagine Lucca doing the same from his place on the roof.
I roll down the window, and climb out of it. I rest my butt on the sill, leaning my elbows on the cars roof. Lucca is looking up at the sky, the clouds reflected in his eyes. I reach out and touch his silky black hair and run my hands through it. He smiles a little.

“Cassandra Gray.” A mocking voice calls, I glance up at Lucca’s brother. Who is leaning against the table. “Such a pretty name.” He smirks.
“How’d you find out?” I ask, glaring at him.
“I asked the lovely couple over there.” He then turns round to point at a couple I recognise from school. Their turned towards each other as if the rest of the café doesn’t even exist. “Besides your my brothers property, I’m hardly going to hurt you now am I?”
I stare at my half-drunk tea, debating whether to leave it or gulp it down. Either way I wanted far away from Theo. “I highly doubt that you wouldn’t hurt me.”
I decide to leave the tea and lift my coat of the back of the chair. “Aw, don’t go!” He makes as if to grab me but I step around him. As I leave through the door I can feel his glare on my back.
I walk quickly up the street. I feel vulnerable when I’m alone. I wish Lucca was pocket sized so I could take him everywhere with me without people noticing.
Suddenly I’m grabbed by the arm and dragged into the closest alley. There’s a soft chuckle beside my ear. “Did I scare you?” Lucca asks and I instantly relax while nodding at him. He leans against the wall and looks down at me. His fascinating blue eyes inspecting my face. “What did Theo want?”
I shrug. “I don’t have a clue.” I reply. I tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. “So, you do stalk me!”
He grins at my statement. It was one of my first questions I ever asked him. “The covenant allows me to know where you are and what you’re feeling.” He gives a half-hearted shrug at his statement. Then a mischievous glint appears in his eyes.
He drapes his arm over my shoulders and leads me back on to the street. We walk up to the café to see Theo drinking by himself. Lucca grins before he disappears. “Watch.” His voice whispers beside my ear.
I enter again and move to a corner where Theo hopefully won’t see me but I have a clear view of him.
Suddenly, Theo’s seat is yanked from beneath him and he falls to the floor with a loud thud. He hisses loudly as he looks around him looking for the culprit. Can he not sense Lucca? I feel someone pulling at my sleeve, Luc.
As Theo climbs back onto his feet I leave the café. “I didn’t know you could do that.” I state as Lucca materialises beside me.
He grins at me. “How did you think I stalked you all day?”
Later that night Lucca takes me to the top of the mountain where we have a view of all the lights of town and the moon reflecting off the sea ahead.
Breathtakingly beautiful. I could sit up here for hours and never get tired of the view even though its colder up here. I sit on the bonnet of the Camaro and Lucca brings a blanket and sweeties with him from the back of the car. He climbs on beside me and drapes the blanket over our laps. He offers me the packet of Haribo and I pick out all the rings and put them on my fingers. Then I eat a fried egg and Lucca takes a coke bottle.
I listen to the crashing waves and the sounds of cars below while resting my head on Lucca’s shoulder.
He takes my hands. He’s so much warmer than me. “Why do our rib tattoos read ‘Live and never forget’?” I ask.
Lucca runs his thumb over my knuckles. “I wanted to keep living for a long time, before I knew what I was. I also didn’t want to forget, I don’t want to forget anything that has happened to me or anyone.” He bites his lip and glances up at me. “The reasons why my tattoos passed onto you is that, anything that means anything to the demon will pass to their master. Most demon eyes are unique though, but other things help.”
“So all people in covenants have eyes like I do?”
He shakes his head. “Not necessarily. They could even have a scar instead.”
I look back down at the scenery again. The orange glow of the street lights reflected in the night sky, like a fire, then the eerie silver reflection of the moon on the sea.
From meeting Lucca, and discovering that demons exists. I no longer believe anything is as it seems anymore. Demons lurk in every corner, but I would have once have thought they were ordinary humans. I know one thing is true, the world hasn’t changed. I have. I have learned something new, and it is something I will never forget.
I made the deal and I must pay the price.
A/N: Hey everyone, I hope you all liked this, I know its somewhat shorter than what I usually write but I have a bit of writers block. So a bit more information on the demon aspect. I was thinking of having the next chapter in Lucca's POV, what y'all think of that?
Anyways COMMENT what you thought and VOTE if you liked it!
Thank you to those who have read so far! ~ Mia
