Chapter 4
“Cassie.” A familiar voice whispers. A finger traces the edges of my jawline. I hum in contentment. A gentle hand grabs my chin, I feel soft lips against mine. My eyes flutter open. Blue orbs laced in gold reflect the moonlight look down at me.
Lucca…
Then he disappeared into the darkness.
I wake up to the beeping of my phones alarm. A dream. The bed is colder than usual. I feel around for Lucca, but can’t find him. Fear pulls at my chest. So I turn off the alarm and I climb off the mattress and search the building for Lucca. I return to the bedroom, cold and Lucca-less. I disappear into the ensuite and start a shower.
After I undressed, I step into the warm water washing away the cold and slowly I become warm.
Once finished washing I dart out of the ensuite into the bedroom, with just a towel wrapped around me. I rummage for a moment or two before extracting a grey knit jumper, jeans and thick socks. It’s April and yet I’m freezing. School’s out for Easter break, which means I have all day to myself.
I try Lucca’s phone, it goes straight to voicemail. I hang up. Where is he?
I throw myself onto the beanbags in the corner of the living room, and stare at the TV. The screen blank and dark, uncaring like a stone. Cold air nips at any bare skin it can find. I pull a fleece blanket around myself and continue to scroll through Facebook on my phone. I hope he comes home soon.
I stare at pictures my old friends have posted recently and I remember how I would have once have gone to all those pictures with them. I feel a sadness settle in the middle of my chest. Nothing has been the same since that night, the only person who I have for company being Lucca.
I stare at my profile picture for a moment or two. It’s a picture of me and Tyler from a few weeks before that night. How unworried that Cassie looks compared to this one, how the only things that mattered to her was making sure she passed her A-Levels and boys. Now look, my A-Levels are the least of my worries and I’m hunting a serial killer and living with a demon.
My life couldn’t be any different if it tried.
There’s a knock at the door. My heart flutters first in relief then in terror. Lucca won’t knock… I climb slowly from the bean bag and walk slowly towards the door. The knocking gets louder.
I grab the door handle as the person on the other side knocks again causing vibrations to run up my arm.
I open the door to a man with striking resemblance to Lucca. He has bleach blonde hair the same length, and same skin tone. Instead of Lucca’s gold laced, blue eyes, he has eyes that are the same stormy blue that gradually fade to white around the pupil. I can see the edges of black tattoos peeking out from beneath his jackets sleeves.
“Is Lucca here?” He asks, his voice similar to Lucca’s but with a slightly more French accent.
“No.” I reply, attempting to close the door, but he pushes it open. He steps in while also letting the door go which causes me to trip forward as it slams shut.
“Where is he?” The man demands, crossing his arms.
“I don’t know!” I snap, becoming impatient. How dare he walk in here like he owns the place!
The man takes a few steps towards me, cornering me between him and the wall. He grabs my chin and inspects my face. He pushes my fringe out of my eyes and grins. “So you are the Covent mistress all of the other demons have been gossiping about.” His hands are cold to the touch unlike Lucca’s which are warm and gentle.
“Let me go.” I growl. I’m nearly completely sure he must be related to Lucca, but he’s not like him. I can feel it.
“What if I don’t want to?” He grins, stroking my bottom lip with his thumb. “You’re a pretty little thing aren’t you.” He leans in as if to kiss me.
Then suddenly he’s thrown across the room and into the wall opposite me. There’s a crack as his skull hits against the wall. Lucca stands infront of me, his body turned slightly towards me. He does a quick glance up and down my body as if to make sure I’m ok. Then his head whips round to watch the other man as he climbs to his feet.
“You got nasty, little brother.” He laughs. “I like it.” He strides towards Lucca, a lazy smirk on his face.
“What do you want Theo?” Lucca growls as the man stops infront of him.
Theo grins and glances at me. “You and this covenant has sparked my interest, little brother.” I watch as Lucca’s shoulders tense.
“Touch her again and I’ll rib your arms off.” Lucca threatens, turning towards me. He walks towards me and studies me. I squirm as I don’t like being the centre of attention. He ruffles my hair alittle allowing his lips to quirk into a tiny smile at the sides. “If you haven’t gathered yet sweetie, this is my hateful elder brother.”
“Hateful, such a strong word.” Theo states, tilting his head. “Don’t you agree?”
I feel a sudden spark of fear as his eyes meet mine. Cold. I feel cold all over again. I hide myself behind Lucca’s slim frame. This also does not go unnoticed and Lucca raises an eyebrow. “He makes me feel cold and scared.” I explain. Lucca scowls at his brother.
“Leave.” He growls.
Theo smiles. “I’ll see you around little raven.”
Then he disappears.
Lucca runs a hand through his hair and sighs. I slap his arm. He looks at me in surprise. “What was that for?” He asks.
“Where did you go?” I retort. He looks down at his feet.
“I thought you’d be mad.”
“Of course I am!” I exclaim. “I wake up and you’re gone with no explanation!”
This then results at him looking at me with confusement. “You don’t remember?”
“Remember what?” I snap, crossing my arms.
Lucca stares at me with awe in his eyes. He takes a step towards me, grabbing my face with both his hands, rubbing his thumbs along my cheekbones. “This.” He whispers, before gently pressing his lips to mine. My eyes flutter closed as warmth spreads from my lips all the way to my toes.
“Oh.” I gasp, as he pulls away.
I stare into his fascinating eyes. They are glowing again, not just the gold but his eyes now look like pools of water. As if I can see into his soul. His cheeks are a little pink as if he’s embarrassed. His mouth quirked into the familiar smirk that usually plays claim to his lips. His black hair casting shadows across his face.
I should fear him and yet I am fascinated by him. He is dark but he is beautiful, like the moon.
“You’re the sun to my very dark world.” He whispers.
He may be a demon, but he’s cute as hell.
And best of all. He’s mine and I am his.
A/N: Hey everyone! :D So here's chapter 4! Sorry it came later than expected! I have so much school work and had no inspiration so I had the problem of having no time and not knowing what to do. :/ Well be off for Easter on Wednesday so, will probably have the next chapter out by the end of the week or the start of next week. :)
