Chapter 9
ღ Cassie ღ
I still can’t look at him without feeling angry. Why on earth did he even start fighting with Adrian? This question has been buzzing around in my head for the past week and it’s beginning to drive me insane. I have tried asking him but all he does is shrug.
I know he’s a demon, who doesn’t care about us humans. However, I can’t see Lucca killing one of us without a reason. I sigh in frustration as I click my pen yet again, Lucca shoots me an annoyed glare. I been clicking my pen for the past ten minutes and clearly he isn’t the only one getting annoyed.
Someone kicks my chair and I turn round to glare at Theo. The schools new celebrity demon. He grins at me, knowing he annoyed me but I can’t do anything back. Lucca watches with mild interest while I wonder what would happen if I was to stab Theo in both eyes with a pen.
In general, Theo has added to my usual hellish days at school. Now all the girls think I’m leading both of them on.
Theo winks at me and then gives me a piece of paper. I turn round in my desk to read it. Lucca stiffens beside me, being the quicker reader out of the pair of us.
I think, little raven that you and me should have lunch together. Not in the wretched school canteen, I never ate such tasteless stuff in my life. So, what do you say to a trip to that café you like so much. Of course, we could bring my useless baby brother, but what fun would that be?
I know why Lucca stiffened, Theo is up to something clearly. He doesn’t strike me as the talkative type, more like the type to skin you alive. However, there is something about Theo that makes me curious, such as why is he interested in our covenant?
I flip the piece of paper over to reply on the otherside. My answer is a very simple ok.
Lucca hisses beside me and I give him a sideways glance. He's glaring at me with those amazing eyes of his, almost like he can see into my soul, even how my mind works.
He can find me anywhere, but he doesn't know my thoughts. Sometimes I wish he could, then he'd know what I want to say to him but will never pass my lips. "You're mad at me but don't put yourself in risky situations." He growls.

Theo leans back against his far and runs a finger around the rim of the mug. He smirks at me.
He's almost identical to Lucca, its almost creepy. His friendly demeanour from school is now gone and a icy cold sets into my bones even though the cafe is roasting. His eyes lock with mine and my heart flutters with fear.
Is this how a deer feels when its looking into the on coming headlights?
"So, why did you make a covenant with my brother?" Theo asks, I have the sudden urge to shudder. It's like I'm back at the police station but this time the officer knows my dark secret. He knows about Lucca.
"I need him." I reply bluntly. I needed him to live then, but now I need him for protection as well as vengence.
"Against the angel?" Theo looks out the window as if something has caught his attention. "He's mad to even stay in this covenant. Fallen angels are highly dangerous. Its hard to say whose more dangerous, the deranged or the sane." He looks back at me and I'm almost shocked.
He actually looks concerned as his eyebrows furrow, hands clasped below his chin. "Maybe Lucca just doesn't care." I reply.
Theo sighs. "Maybe."

When I enter the apartment its eerily quiet, its as if no ones home. I begin to believe this until I see Lucca asleep on the mattress. His black hair sprawled everywhere. He snores softly from below his arm. I watch in awe for a moment.
Did he fall asleep waiting for me?
After leaving Theo I had met up with Tyler and gone to the cinema. I didn't even think to send a text. It's late now. The street lights causing a dull orange glow to enter the windows. I go into the ensuite to change into my pyjamas.
Then I climb into bed and go to sleep.
I can smell burning. I can smell the wood and smoke in the night sky. It makes my skin warm from where it glows on me. I look into Lucca's amazing eyes, the fire dancing in his iris''. The hood of his car warm beneath us.
"Look what we did Cassie." Lucca says. "Isn't it beautiful?"
He looks out across the town. However, I wasn't expecting the view I seen.
The whole town was consumed in flames which rose high into the night sky. The smoke floating above like a dark cloud obscuring the moon. I can hear the people below screaming as they leave their homes in a panic. Every last one of them a silhouette against the fire.
My heart beats faster as I suddenly become scared.
I look back top Lucca. Terror consumes me, making all my muscles tense.
The mask man laughs at me. "Look what I will do."
Then I begin to scream.
A/N: Sorry that it took me so long to update! I have severe writers block at the moment, along with up coming exams so updates will be slow. Anyway I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
