Kylo Ren sighed. It had been a long day. He had lost an overwhelming amount of soldiers, - an entire fleet, to be exact - all in one ambush. The Resistance was growing more and more, and with them, the rise of the Jedi.

He had options, of course. He could force Hux to abandon his troops and start from scratch with a clone army. But if he did that, Hux's whining and attitude might be worse than a couple hundred stormtroopers getting killed.

There was also another option, one he did not care for at all. Snoke always told him that the point of having children was so he could have apprentices to train, but he could not bare train his two beautiful daughters.

It was practically a death sentence for both him and them. He in no way doubted their strength in the Force, as they were part of the Skywalker bloodline, but the thought of training them and then placing them in the middle of a battlefield was too much.

And what would you think? You would be livid, hurt, and frightened. You would not dare allow your husband to put your daughter's lives at risk, whether he liked the idea or not.

It was out of the question. He would suffer a hundred losses before putting them in danger.

As he turned the corner, his only thought being that of the pairs of warm, brown eyes waiting for him in his quarters, he heart the booted footsteps of a captain. He internally sighed; the work never ended when he wanted it to.

"Sir, please excuse me, but we fear that some of our troops have been taken hostage by the Resistance," he said, his voice slightly shaky, his thoughts loud. He was intimidated.

"And?" Kylo snapped. "They failed at their jobs. So be it if they are tortured. Perhaps this lesson will serve them and General Hux well."

The captain nodded quickly, eager to agree with the commander. "Yes, Commander, but we fear that they may use torture as a way to gain information. Information about our location, perhaps."

Kylo Ren nodded. "Yes, I can see that as a possibility." He turned halfway towards the captain, stopping in front of the doors of his quarters. "See to it that General Hux is aware of this. Make sure every post is on the lookout. I will not have the Resistance play us for fools again."

"Of course, sir," the man said, bowing respectfully.

He watched as the doors slid open for Kylo. As they did, the sound of feet against hard floor came closer, and two squeaky, girly voices exclaimed the same thing.

"Daddy!"

The man blinked in slight surprise as he witnessed his commander bend at his knees, hold out his arms, and wait for the two small girls to launch themselves in his welcome arms. Then, the doors slid shut, and he slowly stumbled off, uncomfortable.

Kylo stood up, wrapping his arms around his daughters as he did so. The two five year olds eagerly went to unlatch his helmet. They laughed in delight as they pulled it off his head, revealing his grinning face.

He then began to pepper both of their faces with kisses, chuckling as he brought high pitched laughs out of them. He spun them around before sensing someone else in the room.

Slowly, he lifted his head and smiled, taking in his favorite sight in the world; you. He gently set down the girls, giving them his helmet to toy around with, and walked over to you.

He wrapped his arms around you, kissing you once on the cheek. You hummed in delight and wrapped your arms around his neck lovingly.

"How was work, love?" you asked.

In reply, he buried his face in the side of your neck. You furrowed your eyebrows for a brief moment. He rarely acted this quiet, especially when he first got home. It was the only time he could see the girls.

"How are your headaches?" he asked solemnly. "Did they stay away?"

"They stayed away... for the most part," you admitted.

Kylo shut his eyes.

For five years, you suffered from painful headaches and cycles of illness. Kylo suspected that it was from Snoke, who still was working his way into your head. He could do things to you that Kylo could not stop - and could not bring himself to tell you.

And if he confronted his master, if he begged him to stop, that would only make Snoke more prone to hurting you. He would realize that Kylo was more loyal to you than to him.

"Kylo," you said, stroking his hair, "is something wrong?"

He pulled back. "We'll discuss it later." He gave you a peck on the lips.

He pulled away, turning to his daughters. They played with his helmet, taking turns wearing it, mocking his robotic breathing. Chuckling, he knelt in front of them, pulling the helmet from their hands and placing it on the bed.

"Daddy," Alula whined.

"I think it's time for bed, girls," he said.

"No, Daddy," they said together. They pouted. "Can't we play?"

Kylo sighed. "Not today," he said. "I promise, I'll have a day soon where I'm all yours. Okay?"

"Okay, Daddy," they said.

You smiled, stepping forward and placing a hand on Kylo's shoulder. He reached up, covering your hand with his own. "How about Daddy tucks you in tonight?"

Adhara smiled. "Okay!"

You knelt down, kissing both of their dark brown, curly hair. Alula and Adhara wrapped their short arms around your legs. You hugged them lovingly, whispered goodnight, and then pushed them to their father, who scooped them off and carried them to the second room they both shared.

After, you and Kylo laid on the bed together. It was dark, the air cool. You were resting on your stomach, part of your body draped over Kylo's as he laid stretched out on his back.

"Did you have a bad day?"

He paused. "It wasn't the worst."

"What happened?"

"The Resistance killed a lot of our stormtroopers," he said, "and took others hostage. We're all in danger now."

You didn't want to seem scared; it would only stress him out. "You can handle this, Kylo."

"It's getting harder to," he admitted, and he turned his head to look at you. In the dim darkness, he stared into your eyes. "And I worry about you most of the time."

"Kylo, you don't have to," you said, touching his cheek. "These headaches will pass."

"Will they? It's been five years, ___," he said. You didn't answer. He sighed and rolled away, gently pushing you off of him. He turned away from you, facing the wall. "I just... there are so many things I can't do to protect you."

You frowned. Tracing your fingers up his bare back, you leaning in and kissed his spine. "Kylo, you do more than you know. I'm going to be okay."

When he did not reply, you turned  to the opposite side of the bed and shut your eyes. You felt more alone than ever; he was slowly becoming distant. It reminded you of when you were pregnant.

After a long moment of sad silence, you felt Kylo's warm hand on your thigh. He turned his head partially.

"I love you."

You smiled, eyes closed.
