*~oOo~*

Running.

Panting.

Sweating.

It's like this everyday.

I may be skilled but I have to run at some point, it's like a routine, it's the part I hate the most, the running. Let's just say I'm not like the once fit and should I add alive David Beckham or Mo Farah, I depend on my shooting skills rather than athletics. I can't run at all, I get out of breath and tired within the first minute of running a slight jog.

I'd just narrowly escaped a hoard of Zs, running out of a pharmacy, by the skin of my teeth; but it was definitely worth it. About five boxes of paracetamol, four packets of antibiotics and six containers of ibuprofen and penicillin. I also grabbed some hay fever tablets cause my sniffling and sneezing had gotten worse lately, can't be dealing with a runny nose while fighting, can we?

I ran into a nearby house with a strong door that looked sturdy enough to withstand a few Zs knocking on it. I slammed the oak door behind me and threw my back against it, the Zs soon started to bang and I just kept on pushing that door with my back. After a good few minutes the loud noises stopped as the Zs either lost interest or thought there was no longer fresh blood in the room.

I was still heavily panting. I bought up a flask from my waist to my pink, chapped lips. I took a large gulp of water, some of it dribbling down my chin and onto my filthy top. I wiped it away with my sleeve.

"I really need new clothes... I could probably be mistaken for one of 'em looking this shit" I mumble quietly to myself. I stand up and notice a bolt and latch on the door which i immediately lock and bolt.

My eyes wander around the house, there was a stairway upstairs and a good few rooms downstairs. The house probably belonged to some nuclear family. It was a good time to take a raid to the house. I peaked through the door window to check for any close lingering Zs outside. Clear. I turned back to the house again and let out a sharp whistle, it was loud enough to be heard throughout the house but not by any Zs outside.

I waited for footsteps and soon I heard the light thuds. It was only the one, and it's was coming from one of the downstairs room. I Took my axe from my hip and held it up slightly. Soon it lumbered out of the room, but something stopped me in my tracks, lowering my axe slightly. It was a girl. Looking past the bloody scabs (and the jaw that had been ripped open to show the teeth and bone) she looked about the same age as me. I sighed and walked up to the creature.

"I let your soul move on..." I drive the axe into her scalp and through the head, splitting the head in half. I let out a grunt as I pull the axe out of the head. I check the rooms downstairs, I get to the kitchen and a joyous feeling overcomes me. The place had been untouched, rather rare for times like this. I go straight to the freezer, that's where all the fresh food would be. The houses electricity was still working and so was the water. They must have their own water pump and electrical supply.

If it wasn't for my number one rule I'd stay here. That rule: movement keeps the zebra alive. elephants, swallows, sea gulls, the list goes on but all these animals move to survive and they live. And I live by that rule, and it's kept me alive the past two, three months. its probably even more I can't even remember. I travel during the day and find a house or some kind of infrastructure to stay in during the night.

The freezer was filled with an abundance of food. I felt like crying. Loads of Frozen bread, fish fingers, meat and other glorious items. I grabbed as much as possible and crammed it into my rucksack. I had lots of room as I had just got through my last supply of food. I found some empty water bottles (about three) and filled them to the brim also putting them in my rucksack.

My rucksack was in fact from a military base that I stumbled across at the beginning of this hell. Ironically all the bastards had died from the Zs. It was on the back of a dead solider and seeing as my coat pockets were the only thing that could carry things I took it.

I glimpsed out the window and saw the sun dipping below the horizon in the west

I glimpsed out the window and saw the sun dipping below the horizon in the west.

"I'll just stay here tonight" I said out loud to myself, then leave early in the morning. The Zs are mostly less active then. I put some items back in the freezer but left one packet of bread and fish fingers out for my tea. I was gonna treat myself to a fish finger sandwich.

I clambered upstairs and found a bedroom suitable enough. One was a beautiful duck egg blue, I assumed it belonged to the gir- I mean Z I saw when I first came here. I entered the room and opened some of the closets. They were still full of clothes, today must be the luckiest day ever. I haven't had a day like this since; well... I can't remember!

The sizes were similar to mine and i took some jeans, leggings, plain tops, shirts, trainers, underwear and shorts for when it got hot. There was an ensuite bathroom, I looked inside and turned the knob of the shower. Water trickled out, it wasn't boiling but it wasn't freezing either.

I immediately stripped out of my old clothes and put a pair of pyjamas and underwear on the side of the bath tub. There was no towel so I'd just use my old dirty clothes. I stood under the water and an overwhelming sense of relief and relaxation overcame me.

I rubbed my fingers into my scalp cleansing the no longer greasy hair. I scrubbed my body clean until it was raw. Switching off the water I stepped out of the shower, just drying myself with my old rags. I slipped on the underwear, very comfy jeans and plain blue t-shirt after drying. I felt as pure, cleansed and fresh as an angel.

I returned to the bedroom bringing out a camping stove from my rucksack. I lit it and placed some foil on top. I put two fish fingers on the foil and let them cook. It took about half an hour but it was definitely worth it. I felt like royalty eating cooked food. I savoured every mouthful. I knew this would probably be the last time I would have these luxuries.

I finished my food and glimpsed over to the bed. It looked inviting, there was a few holes in the duvet but still pretty good. I clambered into it and drifted asleep...
