You know that riddle, 'When's a door not a door? When it's ajar.'? Well it has such a deeper physiological meaning than the school kids who tell it thought. The door can mean so many different things to a variety of people. To some it can just be door, no meaning, to others it's about trusting someone and letting them through this door, and for me? For me, it's the door inside my head. Letting the darkness take over, or pushing out. There are two sides to a door, you just have to find out which side you stand, inside or outside? What if I told you inside was good and outside was bad? Would you still be inside your house? Everyone has done something that they're not proud of, the difference between the good and the bad, is admitting what you've done wrong, not just to others, but to yourself.
I knew school today wasn't going to be easy, but compared to what i've been through, it wasn't going to be hard either. I scavenged through my wardrobe for something decent to wear, I decided on black skinny jeans, a dark grey tee shirt, black heeled boots, a belt and a black leather jacket to finish off this rebellious look. I stood in front of the full length mirror and my head tilted to the side, an old habit, I took in my appearance and nodded in acceptance. I walked over to my wardrobe and took the locked wooden box from the top shelf, I carried it to my bed before opening it. Before I was taken to the asylum, I had gotten them from a family called the Argents, yes it was illegal but Chris Argent understood what I was doing and he actually believed me when I told him what I had been seeing. He gave them to me for free and told me to hunt those who hunt us, I didn't understand that, and I still don't. That's why my plan is to find him again and ask him why he believed me and what he meant. I opened the wooden box, using the key on my necklace. Inside was a gun with silver bullets, I don't know why he used silver, maybe because they look better? I don't even know. I loaded the gun and put it to the back of my belt, out of sight. I headed downstairs, shoving the books Scott had given me n my bag, I was hoping to leave before mom woke up.
"You're up early" Scott mumbled, yawning and wiping his eyes. I just nodded, I didn't feel like talking until I felt her presence behind me and I knew I couldn't ignore her.
"Raven?" Mom whispered, as if she doesn't believe it's actually me. My hands grip the kitchen counter as I try to keep my emotions out of my mind, whatever it took. I felt her hand on mine, making it relax and I turned my head to face her, as her arms wrapped around mine and she hugged me tightly. I was tense at first, then I relaxed and hesitantly hugged her back, sliding my hand up and down her back in comfort.
"When did you get home?" She asked as we pulled away, she had a huge cheesy grin on her face and her eyes wet with tears.
"Last night, I told Scott not to call you, I didn't want to bother you at work." I lied, smiling a fake smile. The real reason I didn't want her here is because she's one of the few people who can break through the walls that guard me. Along with Scott, Stiles and Lydia. I heard a knock on the door and when I opened it the cute boy looked up from staring at his shoes and it's like my heart stopped. His chocolate brown eyes widened and glazed over, his mouth opened in shock. I couldn't look him in they eyes, there was too much between us and I knew that he could get inside my head and make me smile or laugh or put any flicker of light and hope inside of me.
"Raven?" He whispered as if asking a question, he wanted to see if it was actually me considering I had changed a lot. I had to bite my cheeks so hard to not smile at him, I shouldn't have done it, but I looked up into his eyes and he suddenly hugged me without warning, and I hugged back. I breathed in his scent and my eyes closed as I gripped him close, thoughts rushed to my head as I had just realized.....I was losing myself. Raven Mcall, you should be better than this, better than letting one guy turn you into someone kinder or sweeter or more popular. I released from the hug and he smiled at me, scratching the back of his head.
