Phantom Pains

     Toothless ran to the academy and Hiccup laughed as he slid off of his friend's head again, landing on the floor.

     At first, no one took notice of their friend and chief who had showed up. Snotlout and the twins were all arguing and Fishlegs sat in the corner, looking up at the sky every now and then as if looking for someone, and Astrid was nowhere to be seen. Hiccup stood and walked over to his friends.

     "Hey guys." He said, but no one answered. Hiccup bit his lip before trying again, a little louder. "Hey guys!"

     This time, Fishlegs looked up and walked over to Hiccup. "Hey Hiccup! It's been awhile since we've seen you here!" He said cheerfully, and Hiccup smiled a small smile. Fishlegs was right, Hiccup had become ten times busier since he became chief, and they hadn't spent any time together, let alone at the academy, in a few weeks.

     "Yeah, But I'm here now." He said, feeling a little less happy, as he remembered a few good times, when he felt he could do so much more, and just be with his friends.

     "Hey guys! Hiccup's here!" Fishlegs said happily, trying to get the still arguing twins and Jorgenson to pay attention. They paused what they were doing and looked at Hiccup.

     "Oh, hey Hiccup." Tuffnut said.

     "Hey, you're good with problems and picking sides, Why don't you help us?" Snotlout said.

     Hiccup sighed, coming closer to the three, Fishlegs following. He had come to see his friends to get away from the problems, not to deal with more.

     "A-Actually, I was wondering if-" Hiccup started, but by the time Hiccup had tried to speak, the others had went back to arguing.

     Hiccup sighed and shook his head. "I-I'm gonna go. My mom is probably waiting for me." Hiccup said turning away. Snotlout looked up and before Hiccup could get very far, Snotlout playfully hit the man's arm and said, "Where ya goin' cuz?"

     "Home. And don't touch me." He said, clearly annoyed. As he walked away, he didn't see Stormfly land and Astrid climb off.

     "Is he okay?" Astrid asked and Fishlegs shrugged his shoulders. Astrid jogged up behind Hiccup and put a hand to his shoulder.

    "Hey are-" But before she could say anything, Hiccup cut her off, not realizing who it was.

     "I said don't touch me!" He snapped, turning around, trying to swat away the hand on his shoulder, and in the process, ended up slapping Astrid.

     She pulled back, shocked out how upset he had gotten. Clearly she had missed out on something. Hiccup pulled back when he realized who it was he had just hit.

     "A-Astrid! I-I I didn't-I-I'm-" He couldn't speak, he was so scared and felt so bad.

     Before she even had a chance to say anything, he turned and ran. He ran as fast as he could, Toothless hot on his friend's heels.

     "Oh gods...Hiccup!" Astrid called before running after her boyfriend.

     Hiccup didn't listen to her call and ran as fast as he could. He ran past every building, every Viking and dragon, and he didn't stop.
