"Stop moving so much or she'll hear us," Chat urged, which allowed Sakamo to relax. He put his ear up against the side of the vent, concentrating deeply. He sucked in a breath.

"I can hear her breathe," Sakamo said, eyes closing. "Based on the rhythm of them her adrenaline has probably kicked in, meaning she already knows we're here.." They were unsteady, fast and consistent.. one could easily consider it hyperventilating. And under these circumstances, it made perfect sense.

"She's on the opposite side?" Chat asked.

"I don't know.. possibly. These walls are pretty thin, she could be rather far."

"Only one way to find out," Chat whispered, grabbing his staff from his belt and extending it only slightly. He gave Sakamo a slight nod before beginning to slam the end of his staff against the side of the vent, continuously denting it until the weak sheet gave way. It sounded almost like a shattering noise against the loud metal, but he gave no mind to it. It revealed a small hole big enough to peek through, but to them, despite their night vision, it was only darkness on the other side.

"Here," Sakamo took Chat's staff and used it widen the gap, making it large enough for them to crawl through. He gave it back, and shortly afterward Chat began to move to the other side of the vent through the hole. Unfortunately, their plans were foiled when a blow so forcible struck Chat straight in the head, nearly knocking him unconscious. Head throbbing viciously, the cause of the blow scampered away while Chat could barely get back up.

"It's her," Sakamo said, finding it difficult to get around Chat. "I'll go after her. Ill come back to you when I'm done with the brat." He loaded a clip into his tranquilizer.

Chat groaned, and eventually sat up while watching Sakamo run in the direction of his attacker. He put the palm of his hand against his head, feeling blood trickling down his scalp.  He stood up, brushing it off. He couldn't let a small blow stop him.

He could hear the loud footsteps of all three of them booming throughout the vents as he followed close behind.

==================

The grandmaster's hand tapped impatiently against his steel throne. Precisely two minutes ago, the raid had ceased. In all of the commotion he had heard about the escapees, and he now had one of them down on their knees in front of him. He held a small, wicked smile.

The boy was beaten and bruised. Clearly fresh out of the torture chamber. And yet his expression was cold, and it seemed he was not at all going to submit. That could be arranged.

"Why don't you just k-kill me already," the boy begged with his eyes, but not with his heart. He was clearly trying to keep the secret safe. But if he was dead, how were they to find the other?
