"Hey ari," Nas smiled wide as he picked up Nazari when she ran to him. "My baby girl. How you been?" Nas asked her as she snuggled her head into his neck.
"Good." She mumbled as she continued to play her game.
Nas rubbed Nazari's back and looked at Nicki. "Hey, Nic. How you been?"
"Pretty good. Better than I was the last time you saw me." Nas nodded.
Nicki was referring to her depression kicking back up again. A few months ago, it showed back up unexpectedly when she found out her father had passed due to heart problems. She had locked herself in the house and Nas took Nazari with him as she recovered. He would stop by and check from time to time, even though at that time in her life, she dreaded his company, really anyones company. She didn't want to talk to anyone.
Things got better for her just a few weeks ago and it was as if her life had turned all the way back around. Nas had someone watch her boutique for her and she couldn't thank him enough for it. Event though they're no longer together, they still care for each other like crazy.
"That's good. You mind if I come in? I wanted to take Nazari out to eat but our reservations aren't till 5:30." Nas explained, still standing in the door way.
"Oh yeah, sorry. Come in." She quickly moved to the side and let him in with Nazari still attached.
He went to sit on the couch and Nicki sat her overnight bag on the table before joining them. "Nazari go play baby. Let me talk to your mom real quick." Nazari looked up and him confused, "But I thought we were leaving, daddy." She asked him.
"We are in a little bit."
Nazari nodded and ran upstairs into her room.
Nas looked at Nicki for a moment until she spoke up, breaking his stare. "What Nas?"
"Damn, Nas? When you start calling me that?".."What happened to Nasir?" He asked with furrowed brows.
Nicki sighed, "Things have changed." She said simply as she looked down.
Nas used his hand to lift her head up so that she was looking at him again. "Why has things changed though, Nic? It doesn't doesn't have to be that way."
"You need to ask yourself that question."
"So I'm the reason?" Nas asked, "everything is my fault?"
"No, I'm not saying it all is. You let the fame get between us and our family. That was your fault." Nicki responded while raising her voice.
"You don't think I know I fucked up? I think about you two every day. I want my family back." Nas pleaded. "It's lonely without my family believe it or not."
"Are you sure about that? All those females you're messing with isn't making up for our absence? What about the young girl you're dating now?" Nicki rolled her eyes.
"I'm not dating her." He said with clenched teeth.
"Then what? You fucking her?" Nicki asked.
"Yes." He answered truthfully. "I'm not dating her though."
"As if that's any better." Nicki shook her head. "You're full of shit, Nas. I think it's time for you to leave."
Nicki stood up and he tried to grab her, "Onika stop."
She snatched back, "Narari, come on! It's time to go." She yelled and moved away from him. She felt a tear fall and quickly wiped it hoping he didn't see.
"Come one, Nicki. Don't cry." ..."Let me talk to you for 5 more minutes?" He pleaded and Nicki ignored him.
"Nazari!" She yelled again and grabbed her bad.
"I'm coming, Mommy. I'm coming." When she approached Nicki, she furrowed her eye brows.
"Why are you crying?" She asked. Nicki shook her head and kissed her cheek. "Nothing, baby. I love you. Have fun at daddy's. I'll call you tonight okay?" Nazari nodded.
Nas picked her up and grabbed her overnight bag.
"I'm not done with this conversation, Onika."
"Well I am." Nicki mumbled and waited for him to reach the door.
"I love you, okay." He said and all Nicki did was nod before closing the door.
