I stood there for a bit frozen, I couldn’t think I knew I was going to say yes, but I couldn’t let it out for some odd reason.
“What?” I managed to get out.
“Will you please be my girlfriend, Rosie I’ve liked you since I saw you that day I came and I couldn’t stop thinking about, about your beautiful eyes, your smile, you.” I started crying more I couldn’t hold them back much longer. “Shhh no don’t cry please I’m sorry I even asked I’ll just go then.”
“NO!” I grabbed his arm as he started walking away. “These tears are happy tears, of course will be your girlfriend, I was hoping you’d ask me that for a long time!” he gave a huge smile than hugged me tight.
“I’m so glad you said yes, oh that reminds me, follow me my lady.” I was holding his hand and following him, I wonder what he’s up to.
He walks me outside for about 10-15 minutes, into this flower patch I have never been to be before, at least I don’t think I have even though this feels like déjà vu, I feel like I’ve seen this place with someone but I can’t fully picture it. He keeps walking until we get to this big oak tree and there’s this picnic set up with a blanket and a basket, more and more we get closer to the tree the more and more I think I’ve been here before. We get to the blanket and sit down.
“Wow Brandon you didn’t have to set this up.”
“I know but I wanted to, do you like here?”
“Yeah I do, for some reason I feel like I’ve been here before though.” He gives me a strange look but I shrug it off and look at what he has set up for us.
“Does Mrs. Donovan know we’re here?”
“Yeah, she’s the one who recommended this place actually she said it was part of your child hood place or something like that.” I knew it! I knew this place was familiar.
“Oh! Now I know why this place seems so familiar, did she tell you who brought me here?”
“Uhh she said this is where your dad took you a few times and you loved it so much that when you came to this adoption place you’d—“
“I’d run away here to see if I can see my mom again.” I stood there looking at the tree and suddenly remembering all of this.
“Yeah that’s what she told me.” I went over to hug Brandon, I was so happy he took me here, I totally forgot about it when I wasn’t allowed to come here anymore.
Brandon hugged me back. “Well, thank you this is amazing.”
“You’re welcome babe, but why would u think your mom was here?”
“Because my dad told me that I could see her in the stars looking down at me and smiling at me on how much I’ve grown.” He smiled and kissed my forehead, it felt good.
“Wow well I’m glad I took you here, were you and your dad close?” I gave out a sigh, just thinking if we were close and I almost laughed a bit but I kept it in.
“No we were nowhere near being close, h-he left me for some slut he absolutely hated me and he used to beat me.” I started tearing up I could feel a teardrop leave my eye, and I quickly wiped it away so Brandon didn’t he see me cry.
“Shh, don’t cry its ok that bastard is gone now and he can’t hurt you anymore.” I gave him a weak smile and hugged him tighter. “Let’s just go and enjoy our picnic ok?” I nodded and we sat down.
“Wait you said that Mrs. Donovan recommended this place, so she knows that we are a couple?” He laughed a bit and again he kissed my forehead, I could get used to this.
“Yeah well I told her when I set this place up and she seemed happy that we are dating.”
“Oh well that’s good, thank you.” He gave me a confused look, “For setting this all up and being the best ever and so comforting.”
“Oh well don’t worry about it I’ve been waiting for this to happen for a long time.” This time I gave him a confused look.
“For a long time? We having even known each other for a long time?” he gave out a chuckle, and I just stared at him.
“I mean by finding someone like you, someone who understands me.”
“Oh well good because I thought I’d never meet a guy like you.” We talked a bit more about how nice today was and how this was a perfect spot, how we didn’t want to go back.
We were cuddling and talking still until we heard some footsteps, they sounded loud and angry, they didn’t sound like Mrs. Donovan’s feet she was to quite, we when looked up we saw this big strong man, who looked to be in his maybe thirties.
“Who are you?!?” he yelled and it scared us both. We looked at each other scared, he looked like I’ve seen him somewhere and his voice sounded like one that I’ve heard before too.
Brandon spoke up, “Uh hi sir I’m Brandon and this is Rose.” He knew how I felt about that but he gave me a look on to fake part of my name, even though he didn’t for his.
“Well what are you doing here?” he almost yelled at us again.
“We were just hanging out, but we’ll leave now.” He got up and started packing, I helped him.
“I don't think so, you should’ve thought that one over before you came here.” This guy made no sense at all and he looked kind of drunk.
“W-what?” Brandon got confused but so was I.
“You’re not leaving until I say so!”
“Oh and why not?!” Brandon replied back giving some sass.
“Because your gonna get it.” He stood into the light where we could see him a bit better, I gasped, and I know who he is.
“Rose, what’s wrong?” Brandon whispered in my ear.
“I know who he is.” I whispered back. Brandon gave me a look that was kind of cute but full of worry.
“Who?” he asked.
“M- My dad.” I choked back tears, I wanted to run and run and never come back I didn’t think I would ever see him again. That man was standing there, like an idiot. Brandon had a scared look on his face. I just stood there in shock wanting to go back but we couldn’t.
