"See you after class."
Clyde whispered and Jace nodded his head yes awarding the other boy with a beautiful smile. It was Clyde's highlight of the day. Clyde had insisted that they go to school for he was feeling better and Jace couldn't deny him that. He honestly seemed better and that's all Jace cared about. Clyde took a left turn while Jace just went on ahead. They didn't have any classes together that day much to Clyde's disappointment. He had planned on sticking to Jace the whole day but that's what schools do. Tear up your whole existence. Even during the breaks they didn't get to see each other. Either Clyde was talking to a teacher and Jace couldn't do anything but smile from far or Jace's class was having their own time minding the plants and their teacher was guarding them. To prevent other students from bothering them. Clyde was watching his best friend and every time he caught his attention, he would blow him a kiss and Jace's face would heat up and he'd look away before anyone saw him like that.It was finally lunch break and he was sure that he'd get a chance of being with Clyde because it was the longest break they had. He packed his books and was leaving when three girls stopped him at the door. It was the cheerleader captain, Ruby and her two best friends, Alaine and Becky. Everyone knew them, they ruled the school after all. Jace didn't know what they wanted from him though.
"Hey you."she smiled and he waved back not really comfortable being cornered by the girls.
"According to Clyde, you are the best tutor to ever exist."
He didn't know whether to be flattered that his best friend thought that of him or that Ruby agreed with him. He smiled and signed thank you to her.
"Would you mind helping me with sign language? I have a friend who can't speak and I am getting tired of writing every now and then."
He didn't see anything wrong with that, in fact he was helping two people understand each other better and so he nodded yes.
"Great, I'll see you at my place around four. Here's my address."
She handed him a paper with her address on it and left.
"See you later handsome."her two friends snickered as they left. From where he was sitting, he could see how excited Clyde was when he talked to his other friends. Belle, his other best friend had her hand around his waist and he was clutching on her shoulders. If Jace didn't know any better, he'd have said that they were a cute couple. Some suspected them to be but they all knew that Belle was as straight as a circle and so was Clyde. It didn't stop them from spreading rumours about the two and Jace couldn't help but wonder what kind of rumours would go around if he ever got together with Clyde. Now that they had kissed, he didn't really know where their relationship was but Clyde didn't seem bothered and so he let it go. Clyde was in the middle of saying something when he saw Jace sitting on his own looking at him. Excusing himself, he went to him.
"Hey angel. What you doing on your own?"
Jace raised his eyebrow at the name making Clyde laugh. He loved it when he laughed.
I wanted to watch you with your friends. You seem happy.
He signed looking at his best friend who was still smiling.
"Yeah? But you are my friend too so come say hi. Let me show your beauty off to them."
Jace hid his blushing face. Clyde always knew how to make him go red and he could hear him chuckling as he stood up.
Aren't you jealous the wild one staring at me right now might you know..he winked at Clyde and went over to his friends.Clyde caught up with him and introduced him to his friends and when he got to Sam, his face turned red. He wasn't blushing, Sam was eyeing Jace like a delicious strip of well cooked bacon and it was making him well jealous.
"What the bird balls are you blushing for Clyde?" Belle questioned when she saw his expression and everyone laughed. Jace couldn't get over his face when he got caught. Jealous bastard. He thought to himself.
"Hey Jace, are you the one who's to tutor Ruby? "
Jace looked up to Sam who was a few inches taller than him and nodded his head yes.
"Dude, she's hot and all but that's playing with fire."
Belle commented and everyone seemed to agree.
I'm just helping her with sign language. That's all.
He signed to Clyde who explained to the others what he'd just said.
"Yeah that's what every single guy who tutors her says. The next day they either have a black eye, a dislocated arm or both." Clyde continued to explain concern filled all over his face. Ruby was bad news and everyone knew.
I'll be okay. Her house is not that far from mine.
He assured Clyde.
"Wait, you are going over to her place? Dude no. I'm coming with."
Clyde shot back failing to see that Jace was getting angry.
Clyde, I'll be fine. Trust me.
"What if something happens and no one can help you. Jace you can't scream for help. You know that."
That was it. Jace had had enough. So that was what it was all about. Clyde thought that he was different from everyone else just because he couldn't speak. He was the last person he thought who would think about him like that. Angry, he walked away leaving Clyde regretting his actions.
