tessa had brought some pizza home for lunch, when the phone rang. naturally, i picked up.
"hello? is this dodie clark?" a seemingly cheerful voice on the other end asked.
"yes, may i ask who's calling?" i replied confusedly.
"gracie bennett. from primary school." the voice answered.
i didn't know a gracie bennett in primary school.
"i'm sorry, i think you have the wrong dodie clark." i blurted out without thinking, subconsciously knowing i was clearly the only living dodie clark.
"no, it says right here. dorothy ann clark." gracie replied gleefully.
"my middle name is miranda." i stated.
"no it isn't, silly! miranda's not a name!" gracie laughed.
i hung up, slightly creeped out at what i'd just heard. when i went to look for tessa, she was nowhere to be found. i didn't know where i was. it looked like a scene straight out of i love lucy, just in color. i went to the bathroom to pee when i looked in the mirror. i was wearing a polka dotted dress and pin curls!
"what just happened?!" i exclaimed, for some reason sounding american.
suddenly, a young girl ran to me and tugged on my dress.
"mommy, mommy! are you okay?" she shouted.
okay, now this was officially weird.
"sweetie, what's your name?" i asked her.
"edith." she replied.
why would i name my child edith?
"are you okay mommy?" edith asked again.
"yes, i'm okay. i just have to sit down." i responded, heading back out towards the kitchen.
