The vault that was once humming and teeming with people in every hallway was now empty and silent. The power had been cut off, and the emergency reds were on. Overseer Ben Slater gathered all residents in the cafeteria and stared down from the second floor balcony, "as most of you know, our lovely vault had been attacked in recent hours."
No one responded, no one spoke. The Only acknowledgement Ben had that anyone was listening was the intent looks he was getting from the people.

Overseer Ben cleared his throat- "the power has been knocked out in certain areas of our home- due to explosive damage to 2nd level electrical generation room. The casualties weren't as extensive as originally thought. Though we have lost the following guards and electrical workers..
Marion and Luke Jenkins, George Wilkinson, Benjamin Martinez, Noel Fernando, And Lucy Button.."
A hum of low voices and quiet sobs followed after each name.
"I'm sorry for the lost lives of our brothers and sisters. But we must move on to continue for the lives of our living neighbors. Work here in the vault gives us a purpose. We do our jobs for the good of our friends and family. But most of all, for the good of our nation as we piece it back together one family at a time."
Ben continued his bullshit 'get over it and get back to work' speech, and most people listened. His speech was blast through intercoms in every work room and hallway, making it possible for the working mechanics, doctors, and repairmen to hear his message. Even with his words ringing in their ears, not many of the workers listened. The attack was so much more extensive than the overseer was explaining, and they were too busy reconstructing the ruined part of the facility.
Dan was one of those called to repair the electrical. Since their weren't many trained electrical engineers still walking, his experience working on pipboys had to suffice.

He sat on the ground, taking up blackened steel tiles to expose the wires underneath. He cut and soldered wires together to recycle as much as he could, since lack of materials called for as much reusing as humanly possible.
As he worked, he scanned the room and listened to what the security guards were talking about.
"We need to be working on the vault door, and turrets. The overseer doesn't understand the situation, Mickey. You need to talk to HOS sinjin about this."
"Mista sins don't think that them gunna's are comin' back. No need to Botha him now."
"Christ." The guard was obviously pissed, "they're coming back, Mickey! I know it. They retreated when they were fully capable of continuing the fight. They're coming back!"
The hot headed guard's yelling drew the the attention of other people working. The whole room became silent.
Mickey folded his arms, "nice one, Ron."
The 5 others who had been working along side Dan were all staring.
"I reckon you wanna explain this to 'em Ron.."
"Everything is fine." The hotheaded guard lied, "The overseer knows what he's doing! We all just need to work so everything can be sorted out."

Dan looked at his coworkers, then back at Ron. "My ass."
