Toma came in less than five minutes later.
Hide must have told him. Maybe he doesn't completely hate me after all...
Toma did his usual thing, and the coughing stopped after a few minutes. "(Y/n)...that boy was pretty upset."
I nodded. "One of the nurses must have told him I'm not a patient."
"Did you tell him the truth?"
I shook my head. "No point. He already hates me. No purpose in pushing it further."
Toma was quiet as he did his best to make me comfortable before he left.
Not everything was a lie.
I really didn't have a cell phone.
I liked cats better than bunnies.
I was dying.
But I guess those were all small, trivial details to Hide.

He wasn't there the next day. I'd suspected as much, but it hurt worse than I'd expected. I'd gotten so used to his short visits that the endless hours had seemed to fly by.
Now I was alone again, bored again.
But there's one other person who might be able to relate to me. Someone who might understand why I did all that I did.
So I stood up and headed for the abandoned wing.

Kaneki was still there, only he was conscious this time. He looked like an absolute mess. But I didn't mind.
"Who are you?" he asked, his eyes wide, terrified.
"I'm (y/n)." I waited a beat. "I'm you."
"What?"
And so I explained it to Kaneki, everything, from the car crash up until today, including Hide.
He just sat there. Not like he could do much else. "But...Hide..."
"I'll be gone before he understands. Just...I didn't want him to hate me, okay? You know what I mean."
"I'm scared, (y/n)."
"I'm scared too, Kaneki."
