What was I supposed to say to him? He was right. He was justified in his anger. I'd been stupid to think I could have gotten away with it forever.
But I couldn't just let him go, could I? I had to try explaining myself. Even if that was the last thing I wanted to do. I stood up, opening the door and looking down the hallway. There he was, walking slowly, only a few feet away.
"Hide!"
He turned back with a frown, but just then, I started coughing, another one of the attacks, and I put one hand over my mouth to stop the blood from getting everywhere, the other on my stomach to ease the contracting motion of the coughs.
"Ha ha, very funny. Great acting, really. You probably just use old blood bags or something. Good for you. Still trying." He turned around. "Whatever."
"Please, get my brother," I said between coughs, leaning against the wall.
"Oh yeah, the brother who knew that you weren't a patient but who corroborated your story. Another standup member of your family."
"Please..."
Hide just kept walking.
I crept back into the closet, shutting the doors. This attack felt worse than the last one. I could already feel the back of my head pounding and my vision going black.
Damn it...Hide...Toma...somebody, help me...
But who would help me after all I'd done?
