Rian's POV

Raven took to me quicker than anyone else did. Asking me questions about shape-shifters and how we worked.

Every time I answered, she always seemed excited to hear my answer.

"I wonder why she's like that," I mused one morning to Selene. She was curled up at my side.

"Because she accepts almost anything. Her pack was the first big one ever. Her coming brought all the packs together.

"If she hadn't of came to be, I wouldn't be here," she added. "She is my grandmother. She also understands our problems because she had mate problems, too.

"She mated with Donavan, then Stefan- two mates. Raven had to choose who was get true mate, and who was to be her enforcer.

"Raven made her choices which led to me, to my brother, and to my father. Our family is odd, but we are family through both last packs."

I nodded, taking in everything she told me. Family almost always stuck together.

"Shifter families aren't like that," I murmured softly. "At least, they aren't when their parents are Were's.

"Were's fear us because we are larger then them; and because we are stronger."

I sighed deeply.

"Is that what happened to you?" Selene's voice told me she seemed a little afraid to ask.

"Yes," I answered after a moment. "When my parents found me as a lion cub instead of a tiger- and I shifted back to tiger- they freaked.

"Were's never abandon their young... But mine did. They left me there to fend on my own. I learned everything I know by myself.

"As the years went on I found others," I said. "Like Jonah. His parents didn't abandon him like mine did, but they still treated him with fear.

"I found him and taught him what I know and he started to gather others to find back against werewolves and make them pay."

I felt Selene's body stiffen for a moment. She took a deep breath and rolled over to lay on my chest.

"So then you truly didn't start this," she whispered. I shook my head.

"Nope. I stood behind him, but I didn't start it. He used me as a front because I was the first."

She nodded.

In a moment if bravery, she sat across my lap, her hands on my chest.

Resting her upper body down on me, she took a small breath.

"Promise you'll always be here with me." I suddenly rolled us over. She held her breath.

"Let me prove it to you," I breathed, my breath fanning get hair softly. I saw her eyes tighten.

"You mean... mark me?" Again, she almost sounded afraid.

"Only if you want," I agreed, my voice soft. This would mean she and I would be connected until death parted us. And she knew it.

Selene's POV

Did I want him to mark me? I mean, I knew that connected us on a deep level; but still. Sex already had us connected...

Rian leaned down and ran his tongue along my shoulder and slightly up my neck. A sharp shiver ran up my spine.

'Do it,' a small voice urged. I wanted to cry as I recognized that voice. 'Just trust how you feel now, at this very moment.'
