Philip kept a tight hold on my hand as I weaved through the legs of taller and older men, trying to find my play place I found a year ago. After squeezing through two more men, I finally found it.
"Over here!" I said excitedly, giving Philip a warm smile. Philip gave one back, only smaller. We finally made it to a door on one side of a waiting room. I jumped up and turned the knob, opening the door.
"Come on in!" Philip snuck inside with me right on his heels. The room was an abandoned closet space that was practically empty. To grown men, it was only a broom closet, but to a 5 and 6 year old, it was limitless opportunities.
"Woah, this is your play place?" Philip asked, a little more confident than last time he talked to me. I nodded vigorously, turning to a tower of boxes and climbing up a few to be taller.
"Welcome to the secret kingdom! I am your ruler, Princess (Y/N) Washington!" I declared, waving an invisible scepter in the air. Philip laughed a little.
"Well I'm from another kingdom, and I'm Prince Philip Hamilton. I've come to take over your kingdom!" He said proudly, also waving an invisible sword in the air. I gasped in pretend shock.
"You declare war on me?! Fine! But I have a secret weapon. An evil dragon!" I yelled. I jumped of my box, landing on the ground and growling and roaring, pretending to be my evil dragon. Philip screamed in pretend terror and ran around the closet, both of us laughing.
We ran around for a little while until I got backed up into a wall.
"Ha! I've got you right where I want you, evil dragon!" Philip triumphed. I looked around, anxious for a way to escape. "And now! I smite you, dragon!" Philip took his imaginary sword and stabbed it into my chest. I groaned and flopped onto the floor.
"Oh my! I have been slain by the Mighty Prince Philip!" I choked out, before finally going still and sticking my tongue.
"Now, I must find the princess of this kingdom!" Philip turned around, searching the horizon we created in our mind. I quickly got up and changed character.
"Prince Philip," I said. Philip spun around to face me. "You did well at defeating my dragon. But now! Prepare to be defeated by me!" I raised my pretend sword into the air and yelled a battle cry. Philip joined in the yell, pointing his sword at me.
We were running at each other, fully ready for the battle ahead of us. We both raised our swords, ready to strike until-
"Alright kids, time for lunch."
The door to the closet was open, my father and Mr. Hamilton on the other side. Philip and I both dropped our arms and whined.
"Aww, can't we play for a few more minutes?" I begged.
"Yeah! I was about to win a sword fight with (Y/N)!" Philip added.
"No you weren't!" I turned to face him.
"Was too!" He shot back.
"Alright, alright. It's time for lunch. Come on kids." Alexander interrupted. We both groaned one more before joining our fathers. I reached up and held my father's hand before following him to the usual place we ate lunch. I turned around to see Mr. Hamilton and Philip following close behind. I waved to Philip, who gave a big smile and waved back.
"Alexander, would you like to sit with us for lunch?" My father asked over his shoulder. I turned around, willing him to say yes. Mr. Hamilton noticed my anxiousness, then Philip's, and put his finger to his chin in thought.
"I don't know Mr. President. What do you kids think?" He asked. Philip and I exchanged glances and smiled.
"Yes! Yes please!" We both exclaimed at the same time. Both men chuckled and agreed.
