Chapter 1: The Call Home

ASHLEY

"Mom? Hello? Mom, you there?"

"Hello? Sweety? Is that really you? I haven't heard from you for forever!!!"

"I know it's been so long, because of this stupid rule over here. How is everybody?"

"Everyone is doing great, but we really miss you. Dad's in Europe for work, Brandon is in Florida for his missions, and your sisters... Well they are just waiting for you to get back, so you can teach them new tricks."

"Well, tell them I miss them to," I chuckle into the phone, "So how have you been Mom? You know with all the older siblings not in the house, and Dad on the other side of the world."

"I'm hanging in there. I'm working more night hours. Which is tougher on your sisters then me," she sighs, "It's been quite lonely... I just wish you could come home. The girls really miss you..."

"Mom you know this is only good for me and the family. It's safer when I'm through with this boarding school. Any ways it's actually not to bad here." I tried to cheer my mom up.

"I know I just hope you come home soon..."

"Just give me one more year, and I'll be back quicker than you think."

"Okay. Well how do you like it there?" she asks.

"It's great. The classes here are wonderful. The self defense class is my favorite. But I'm a lot better at defense and handling a gun, than skills. But I feel a lot stronger and safer now."

"That's good. I love you..."

I could feel my eyes starting to swell up. So I made up an excuse as quickly as I could, so I couldn't cry into the phone. "I-I love you to. Listen I got to go, I got hunting class in a bit."

"Ok. Talk to you soon, right?"

"Ok Mom ... Bye"

"Love you bye."

I couldn't help, but cry after I set down the phone. It's just been so long since I saw my family. I just really miss them so much.

I just hope I can get back soon...
