Forty two months. Forty two months of watching wedding shows. Forty two months of figuring out my favorite flower. Forty two months of day dreaming. Forty two months until my wedding day.
The past year was a crazy one, full of planning and dozens of phone calls. I spent hours looking for a good venue and I would've searched longer had Josh not suggested we do it in our own back yard. I didn't mind, as the wedding was supposed to be small anyway. I then switched my focus to decorations. I found white paper lanterns to put everywhere and even a white wooden arch decorated with flowers.
I found my dress four months after the engagement and I had to get it tailored. The dress wasn't in my closet until two months before the wedding. After I got the dress, Josh had to ask me to get his clothes from our closet because I didn't want him seeing it.
I had moved from my room to Josh's the same month we got engaged. The boys and I transformed my room into a guest room like it was before I moved in. Noah was still in his room and he had now upgraded from a crib to a twin bed. He was now three and a half and he was so much more active than I had ever imagined. Josh and I decided that Noah would be the one to walk me down the aisle.
Josh and I both decided against bridesmaids and groomsmen because it would mean Josh had to pick between his friends. Josh did decide that Simon would be the witness on our wedding certificate, though.
The day of the wedding was even more hectic than the entire year leading up to it. Josh had somehow lost his shoes and had to wear sneakers instead, Noah refused to wear his vest, the only thing keeping his white shirt from getting stained, and my hair refused to stay styled, the veil falling out constantly.
Noah ended up walking me down the aisle with a grass stain on his shirt and I walked down with my hair falling in my face every five seconds. I had to hold in my laughter at the sight of Josh's shoes. They were black and white so they didn't stand out too much, but anyone could tell that he wasn't meant to be wearing them.
At the altar, Josh and I both stumbled over our vows. He had put so many inside jokes into his and I couldn't stop thinking about them as I said mine. When he kissed me, everyone cheered except Noah. He just whined about it being gross and kept telling us to stop. I just picked him up and kissed all over his face, Josh smiling at us the entire time.
The pictures ended up being just as messy as the entire ceremony. Noah only sat still for a few of them and there were countless photos of us laughing, as the boys kept cracking jokes. The photos of just Josh and I were cute until our guests thought it would be a good idea to casually photo bomb them.
Our first dance was a wreck, the two of us completely forgetting the choreography and Josh constantly stepping on my toes. We ended up changing the song to the Cha Cha Slide since it would be impossible to dance wrong to that song.
Everyone ate outside, people only going into the house for more food. The sun was setting and the light from the lanterns grew brighter with each passing minute.
After the meal, the dancing began again. Josh and I were always at the center of the dance floor and we didn't leave the spot until I complained of my feet aching. The two of us sat at a table and watched the others dance, JJ and Tobi even starting a bit of a dance off.
Our light conversation was interrupted by JJ grabbing the microphone from the DJ. I figured he was going to start a speech and say something about Josh and I. I was unpleasantly surprised to hear him rapping the first verse of Keep Up. All of our guests groaned and I quickly got up to take him inside, as he was clearly very drunk.
Simon beat me to it, walking his best friend into their house. I assumed that JJ would be up in his room for the rest of the night. The party was beginning to die down anyway, a significant number of guests filtering out at once since many of them carpooled to get here.
Josh insisted on having treats that the guests could take home. He had special jars made with our names and the date printed on them. When I first saw the jars I knew it was too good to be true and, of course, I was right. He filled the jars with gummy dicks. Our guests found it funny and very much like Josh to do something like that.
I found myself on my bed sometime later, my dress still on and my shoes somewhere on the floor. Josh entered the room and quietly sat beside me. He had just put Noah to bed, the poor boy having stayed up all night like the adults.
"When I first saw you at that diner, I knew I wanted to be in your life. You seemed lonely despite being around people every second of the day. The day I met Noah, I knew I wanted to be in his life. He needed to be surrounded by people who would love and take care of him. On our first date, I knew that I wanted to be around you every minute of the day. There is never a dull moment when I'm around you. Even if the two of us are sitting in silence, it's good and calm and I love it. I love you. I knew I loved you when you when you let me feed Noah because I knew then that you trusted me and cared for me like I cared for you."
"You have turned my life around, Josh, and I couldn't be more grateful."
