Eleven
"So, how did this happen?"
"How'd what happen?" Dan asks, putting his guitar case down and to lean better on the back of the couch.
I look straight back at him, stopping the urge to roll my eyes. I don't know, the fact that I'm standing here right now talking to a bunch of rambunctious guys whom I just realized I have to be with for as long as I'm staying here. How'd it happen?
"Well, I've been playing guitar with my brother for a long time-- since we were both little. That would be Dan, by the way." Andrew replies.
"Yup, that's me. I'm only a year older. You're already eighteen right?" Dan asks. I nod.
"Don't say anything, Daniel." Jesse warns. Dan feigns a hurtful look.
"I was just going to say we can legally date." He pouts. Jesse groans and mouths me a 'sorry'.
I narrow my eyes at him. Yeah, he better be.
"Dan plays the bass and drums, I play the guitar and a little bit of piano," Andrew continues. "But Trevor actually plays the piano in the band."
"Ever since I was little!" Trevor adds.
"And of course, Jesse plays the drums."
"O...kay," I nod, trying to catch on.
"This all really started the summer of last year. Jesse and I are in the school's soccer team, and we've played together since middle school." Trevor says.
"And Trevor and I attend the same music school in Beverly, where Dan used to go too." Andrew informs.
"Our dad owns it," Dan adds.
"That's pretty cool." I comment. "So, Jesse knew Trevor and Trevor knew you guys?" Not knowing where this whole conversation is going.
"Right!" Andrew beams, causing me to smile as well.
"So for my birthday, my dad decided to give me a drum set after I broke Gramps' bongos." Jesse says blatantly. I laugh at the memory of Gramps retelling the whole story of Jesse breaking Gramps most prized possession, from when he went to New York and got it at a flee market.
"He loved that thing," I giggled.
Jesse sighed, rolling his eyes. "Yeah, but he hated the drums! He said hearing the thing everyday will make him die earlier." All of us laugh.
"That's why I needed a place to keep them somewhere else." Jesse continues.
"It's in my garage," Trevor says. "My dad likes to use it too. He used to play as well."
"That's great!" I smile at him. He nods.
"Then Daniel and Andrew came over and found out about Jesse and Dan decided to teach him how to play."
"Yup, he's a natural at it." Dan smirks.
"I learn from the best," He grins. That's weird, a minute ago they were ready to jump at each other. I sigh. I'll never understand boys.
"And we all really hit it off. We even got asked to be the band for Prom last year." Andrew says proudly.
"And this year too. I was a senior last year but I don't mind going back." Dan adds.
"So we just kind of happened." Jesse shrugs. Dan decides to get another seat pillow on the floor and sits on it.
"That's amazing! I'm glad you guys found each other, and I'm really happy that Jesse has an amazing group of friends." I say genuinely.
