Ten
"So did you get a good night's rest?" Gram says. We were in the kitchen, and I was helping her with bringing plants outside. Since it was starting to get warmer, the potted plants from inside can come back out again.
"Definitely!" I say.
"Don't lie! No one can sleep through Jesse's snoring!" Gramps calls out from the kitchen table, who's reading the news paper.
I laugh. "I slept just fine! I missed Jesse's snoring, actually." Gramps snorts, disagreeing.
"Where is that child anyways? I thought you two were going out?" Gram asks.
"He fell back asleep after I woke him up, so he was still asleep when I finished getting ready. He's taking a shower now, I think." I shrug, hitching a potted plant up my arms. Both my grandparents sigh.
Grams and I make our way through the kitchen and the dining room where the french doors resided that led to the garden. I take in the beautiful view.
I step outside to examine the patio, an area floored with intricate tiles with a comfortable seating area covered by a canopy. A new grill was pushed up to the side of the house, next to the shed.
In front of the patio was a large, open, grassy area, where I remember Gramps, Jesse and I would play all afternoon. It was fenced by tall hedges, then beautiful flowers of all sorts. Hydrangeas, roses, peonies and daisies littered the perimeter, and they were all just starting to bloom. A fenced area was reserved to the side for vegetables, which Gramps liked to tend to. The place seemed smaller than I remembered.
"Jesse and Rick built that gazebo over there last summer! It's does a great job on balancing the terrain." Gram shows me. I turn to the other side of the backyard, where I surprisingly find the hill on the far corner of the yard to be replaced with a trail of white, wooden stairs that led to a small, white gazebo.
"It's so romantic!" I gush, admiring the newly added piece that fits perfectly in the garden.
Gram nods. "We put up lights on it during the winter. It's beautiful."
We put our potted plants down around the patio and go back inside to get more. After two quick trips back and forth we finally finished and the empty patio looked more cozy with the leafy plants.
Me and Grams take a seat on the cushioned arm chairs for a break.
"It's getting warmer," I comment as I take off my navy blue cardigan and fix my shirt.
"Yup! Can't wait to finally stop wearing jeans!" Grams squeals excitedly.
"I hate jeans too!" I agree, stretching my legs to look at my skinny jeans. I hate wearing jeans, and I'd wear leggings or sweatpants everyday if I could.
Suddenly Jesse bursts out of the french doors, wearing some jeans and a plain white and gray baseball tee, his hair still in wet, heavy curls from his shower. "Ready?" He grins.
Gram groans while I roll my eyes, getting up. "I've been ready," I say. I turn to kiss Gram on the cheek and I follow Jesse out the door.
The town of Beverly is a lovely place, especially when spring finds itself in the pretty little city, the time where cherry blossoms colored the streets of downtown.
"I haven't seen the cherry blossoms in ages!" I say, leaning on the car window, admiring the trees blooming with delicate pink flowers. Jesse and I were coasting downtown in our grandparent's car. "So where are we going?"
