Chapter 19
Lily’s P.O.V.
“It’s Lily, your sister.” I stated.
“Liliana?” Daniel questioned. “Oh my god.”
“Not that you’re aware of, Daniel? You’re not aware if you have a sister?” My voice cracking as I muttered the words.
“Liliana, how did you get my number?”
“I just told you, I looked in the school’s directory. Don’t change the subject.” I said, crying a little.
“I didn’t know if you wanted to be called my sister anymore.” he explained.
“Daniel, you’re a liar because I’m not the one who left. It would be ten times easier for you to find me, but here I am fake calling you, just to hear some lame excuse.” I sobbed.
“I know. I’ve just been too scared to face you lately.”
“You’ve always been scared to face me.” I argued.
There was a long pause over the phone. I was getting worried he was going hang up and pretend this never happened.
“I’m sorry, Lily.” Daniel whispered.
“What?” I asked, shocked.
“Lily, I’m sorry. It was stupid for me to leave you alone. I hated dad for leaving me, and then I did the same too you. And I’m sorry.”
Tears flowed constantly from my eyes. No one in my family said sorry to me. Daniel has never called me Lily in my entire life. And yet, here he was, saying both of the things I wanted to hear in one sentence.
“I forgive you, Daniel.” I cried, trying to wipe tears from my face.
“Oh my god, thank you. It bothered me for so long after I left. I thought I’d never hear you say that.”
“Daniel, I’m sorry for causing you so much pain, I didn’t mean to.” I sobbed even harder.
“No,no,no. it wasn’t your fault. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, and I needed someone to blame. It’s dad that we’re both mad at. Getting him to apologize will be the hardest.” he joked. “And anyway, I should be the only one apologizing. This could’ve scarred you emotionally.”
It did in a way, but now I’m over it.
I laughed and wiped the remaining tears from my face.
“I love, you Lily.”
“I love you too, Daniel.”
My heart swelled, and tears threatened to spill again. This was our first time hearing it from each other. I never heard it from anyone. But I’m happy it was Daniel who said it first.
“So Lily, how’s your first year of college going?” he said, trying to start casual conversation.
“My grades were good until I met some new friends.”
“Yeah, I remember those days. Do you have any roommates?”
“No, actually,” I said looking over to the bed across the room. “The girl never showed up.”
“Cool, your own room. I wish I had my own room. My roommate was a pig.”
I giggled again, remembering how Harry was ripping through my drawers complaining about the same thing.
“Um, what do you do for a living?” I asked him.
“I am actually an uprising lawyer.”
“Really?” in the eight short years I’ve known Daniel, law wasn’t something I saw him doing.
“No. I’m the assistant director for a website HTML. It gives the website its look and features. What do you study in?”
“English. I’m failing math, and you’re good at it.” I laughed.
“Daniel, do you have a girlfriend?” I asked, wondering. It has been 8 years; it would be interesting to see who he ended up with.
“That’s a surprise. We could meet up one day and I’ll meet your new friends, and you’ll meet who ever I bring. What are your friends names?”
“Um,” I said, twirling my hair around my finger, “I don’t have any friends, but I do have a boyfriend.” I said, blushing.
“Boyfriend? I have to meet him.”
Harry’s P.O.V.
The tape with me singing Black and Gold was ready. I decided to take it to Lily’s dorm, and slip it under her door as a surprise.
When I arrived at her door, I heard her talking. Shouldn’t she be in class?
“I don’t have any friends, but I do have a boyfriend.” I heard her say.
I heard no response so I assumed she was on the phone.
“His name is Harry. Tall about 6’3, brown curly hair, wears it quiffed up. Very attractive I must admit.”
I smiled to myself as I heard her describe me. I wondered who she was talked to, and why they wanted to know what I looked like. I pressed my ear closer to the door in hope to hear more conversation. When I couldn’t hear anything, I opened the door. I’ve had enough eavesdropping for today.
“He’s tall about 6’3, brown curly hair, wears it quiffed up. Very attractive I must admit.” I mocked, in the most girly voice I could emit.
She covered her face, to hide her reddened cheeks, embarrassed because I heard what she said, and that I was mocking her.
“Daniel, I have to leave now. Yes, it’s him. Bye.”
Daniel? Wasn’t that her brother’s name?
“Isn’t Daniel your brother?” I asked.
“Yeah, I found his number and we made up.”
I walked across the room and sat next to her on her bed. I pulled her into my lap. I saw tear smudges on her face, and I wiped them off.
“So, I’m your boyfriend?”
She covered her face again. I remove her hands from her face, and I kissed her lips.
“Not that I’d mind.” I replied.
“What’s that?” Lily asked, pointing to the tape I made her.
“It’s a song I wrote for you in music theory class. But this is for later. I wanna sing it too you live.”
I put her back onto her bed and stalked over to her closet. I dug through her piles of clothes and found her guitar. I stood in front of her, and began to sing.
-----
“Did you like it?” I asked.
“Loved it.”
“What was your favorite lyric?’
“If you’re not really there, I don’t wanna be either.”
“I knew you’d like it.
She smiled and I kissed her again. My hands reach to her sides, and I wiggled my fingers against her.
“Stop!” she squealed with laughter. I tickled her until she couldn’t breathe.
“I love you so much.” I whispered.
“I love you too.” she said, burying her face into my neck, letting our first real confession of love sink in.
